Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Being a part of one of the most famous musical families in history is no easy task. For the Jackson family, having famous as well as infamous siblings makes for uncomfortable family get-togethers. There has only been one Jackson, however, that has made a voice-over for the longest running animated show in history, "The Simpsons". Which Jackson did the voice-over?

Answer: Michael

Michael appears in "The Simpsons" episode 7F24, "Stark Raving Dad". He portrays the mental patient, Leon Kompowsky, whom Homer encounters when he is inadvertently put into an insane asylum for wearing a pink shirt to work. Since Michael's contract strictly forbade him from doing any kind of television appearances, he was credited as John Jay Smith. Kipp Lennon did the actual singing because of copyright reasons.
2. Although Kylie Minogue is the more famous sibling in the United States than her younger sister, Dannii, Kylie and Dannii have had chart topping hits all over the world and starred in many movies separately. Among their similarities, though, which of these "same time" statements would Dannii and Kylie not be talking about at a family reunion?

Answer: Both released their debut single the same year

Although Kylie is the more established artist in the United States, it was actually Dannii who first made her foray into the music industry when she released "Material Girl", originally sung by Madonna, on her 1985 debut album "Now and Then". It wasn't until 1987 that Kylie climbed the charts all over the world with her remake of the Little Eva song "The Locomotion".

Although both of them had been famous for quite some time, they did not appear together on the same bill until 1992 when both of them appeared at Cesme Music Festival in Turkey. Both of them appeared on the Australian television series "Young Talent Time" in 1982. "Come into My World", Kylie's fourth single off her multi-platinum cd "Fever", was released a week after Dannii's single "Put the Needle on It", but both of them entered the Top 20 Dance Chart the same week.
3. What television show would brothers Clint and Ron Howard show at Christmas dinner because they made their first appearance together?

Answer: The Andy Griffith Show

Ron and Clint were both regular cast members on "The Andy Griffith Show" which ran from 1960-1968. Who could forget Ron's role as the loveable Opie? Clint portrayed Leon throughout the show's run. "The Andy Griffith Show" became an instant hit and even produced varoius spin-offs including "Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C." and "Mayberry R.F.D.".
4. Siblings Shirley MacLaine and Warren Beatty have had very successful movie careers, but which one was the first sibling to display an Oscar for Best Actor or Best Actress at a family gathering?

Answer: Shirley MacLaine

Warren Beatty won an Oscar first, but it was for directing the 1981 movie "Reds". Shirley, born Shirley MacLean Beaty, won her first nomination in "Some Came Running" with Frank Sinatra in 1959, but it was not until 1983 that she finally won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Aurora Greenway in the movie "Terms of Endearment".
5. Which of these following movies would Joan and John Cusack not show at a family reunion, because both of them did not star in it?

Answer: In & Out

Joan and John Cusack have appeared in many movies together throughout their esteemed movie careers. Their first performance together was in the 1983 movie, "Class" and then a year later in "Sixteen Candles." Although she is uncredited in "Say Anything...", she portrays Constance Dobler in this 1989 movie starring her brother and Ione Sky.

She has a small role as her brother's secretary, Marcella, in 1997's "Grosse Point Blank". Only Joan, however, appears in 1997's "In & Out" as the bride-to-be, Emily Montgomery with Kevin Kline.
6. Having appeared on this show together, what television show would sisters Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears both be able to talk about to family members at Christmas dinner?

Answer: All That

Jamie Lynn was a regular performer on Nickelodeon's "All That" when her sister, Britney, guest starred on February 9, 2002. Before that, Jamie Lynn and Britney worked together on Britney's first major motion picture, "Crossroads". Britney portrays Lucy Wagner, who sets out on a cross-country journey with her friends. Jamie Lynn portrays the younger Lucy Wagner.
7. The Osmond family has seen its share of ups and downs in the careers of all of the Osmond siblings. Who are the only two siblings who have hosted two television shows together?

Answer: Donny and Marie

Donny and Marie have hosted two television shows together. The first one, "Donny and Marie" aired from 1976-1979. Although the first season included the rest of their siblings, Donny and Marie were the only two in the title of the show. In 1998, they again hosted another show, "Donny & Marie".

This time, however, their siblings only made a handful of appearances during the show's two year run.
8. Brother and sister team, Taryn and Kellin Manning, formed a band after Taryn had made a name for herself by starring in movies with the likes of Britney Spears and Eminem. What would their parents say the name of the band is to relatives at Thanksgiving dinner?

Answer: BoomKAT

Taryn and Kellin formed BoomKAT after Taryn had been rejected by the WB television show, "Popstars". Taryn made her acting debut in the 1999 sitcom "Get Real" and went on to star with the likes of Britney Spears in "Crossroads", Eminem in "8 Mile", and Michelle Pfeiffer in "White Oleander". BoomKAT's first single, "The Wreckoning" off of their debut album, "BoomKATALOG", was released to radio in November 2002.
9. Whenever Ben and Casey Affleck want to impress family members during their New Year's party, they pop in one of their movies. What is the only film written and directed by Kevin Smith that they both could agree on to show because they both appeared in it?

Answer: Chasing Amy

Ben and Casey's first appearance together was in "Good Will Hunting" which Ben co-wrote and co-starred in with Matt Damon. Their second appearance together was in Kevin Smith's "Chasing Amy". Ben stars as Holden McNeil who falls in love with Alyssa Jones (portrayed by Joey Lauren Adams), a self-proclaimed lesbian. Casey makes a brief appearance in this movie.
10. Melissa Gilbert is best known for her role as Laura Ingalls-Wilder on the television show "Little House on the Prairie". Her sister, Sara, followed her to the small screen, appearing as Darlene Conner-Healy on the show "Roseanne". If their parents always introduced the one with most Emmy nominations for her first television show first, who would be the first to be introduced, and how many would they say she had been nominated for?

Answer: Sara, 2

Despite "Little House on the Prairie" being televised for ten seasons, Melissa Gilbert was never nominated for her role as Laura Ingalls-Wilder. She was later recognized, however, for her work on the television movie, "The Miracle Worker". Melissa was also the first child actress to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Sara received back-to-back nominations for Best Supporting Actress for the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons of "Roseanne".
