Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the Stooges' occupation as the feature begins?

Answer: Street cleaners

As the story opens we see the boys sweeping the streets in white uniforms. They end up bashing each other with their brooms. "So Long Mr. Chumps" is a deliberate parody of the Oscar-nominated film "Goodbye, Mr. Chips", which was popular at the time. It is the 59th feature the Three Stooges made.

The boys are census takers in "No Census No Feeling". They are both carpenters and pharmacists in "Pardon My Scotch". "So Long Mr. Chumps" was originally released on February 7, 1941.
2. When a truck exhaust blows Curly's pile of papers around, what does he put in the tailpipe?

Answer: A wad of paper

When he becomes frustrated at having his papers blown around he twists one of the papers up and puts it in the tailpipe. Of course it flies out and hits him when the engine is revved. A short time later Curly and Moe perform the sticky paper routine which appears occasionally in some other episodes. According to Moe, Curly was never very good with written dialogue.

Whenever he got stuck he would improvise some nonsense that was usually kept in the film.
3. The boys find some oil bonds on the ground. Who do they belong to?

Answer: B. O. Davis

The oil bonds belong to B.O. Davis and the boys argue over whether they should return them. Honest Moe prevails and they're off to find Mr. Davis. Moe was actually born Harry Moses Horwitz in Bensonhurst, New York. Larry Fine was born Louis Feinberg in Philadelphia. He was married to Mabel Haney from 1926 until her death in 1967. Curly Howard's real name was Jerome Lester Horwitz.
4. When the boys find the bond owner, he says he's going to give them a reward for their honesty. What does he give them?

Answer: A position

He informs the boys they will be given a position. He also promises them a $5,000 reward but says they'll get it only when and if they complete the task involved with their position. Curly eats a banana while they're talking. Actually he starts eating the banana peel and throws away the banana.

When he leaves the office he gives the remaining banana peel back to B.O. Davis and tells him to have it refilled.
5. What do the boys have to do to get the reward?

Answer: Find an honest man

The boys are informed that they have to find an honest man with executive abilities. They go through great lengths to find one, including using the wallet on a string gag. Selling tickets to a ball game, selling Brighto and selling memberships to the Canvas Back Duck Club are tasks the Stooges perform in other features. The trio finds an honest man with the help of an honest dog.
6. The boys are led by the dog to a weeping girl whose fiancé is in jail. What is the fiancé's name?

Answer: Percy Pomeroy

The girls insists her fiancé is an honest man, even though he's in jail. The weeping girl is played by Dorothy Appleby. Born in Maine, she appeared in over 50 films between 1931 and 1943. Percy Pomeroy is played by Eddie Laughton. His prison uniform number is 41144. British actor Eddie Laughton appeared in over 200 films.

There is a sign next to the girl that reads "Roses-fifty cents a dozen". The Stooges realize the only way to get to meet Pomeroy is by getting arrested. Gyp the People is the public enemy the Stooges inadvertently help police capture while they're trying to get arrested themselves.
7. After several failed attempts to get arrested the Stooges try to save a policeman from a falling light fixture and tackle him. What sentence does the policeman say the boys will get for assaulting an officer?

Answer: A year

The boys admit to robbing a bank and killing guards but the cops don't believe them. After they run after the real bank robbers, they save the remaining policeman but end up in jail. The policeman tells the boys they'll get a year for assaulting an officer. Stooge film regular Vernon Dent plays the desk sergeant. Dent appeared occasionally in feature films including "Million Dollar Legs", "Chip Off the Old Block" and "Kill the Umpire".

He was featured in more Three Stooges features than any other actor.

In real life he was close friends with Curly and Moe's brother Shemp.
8. When they land in prison the boys are all wearing striped uniforms. What number does Curly have on his uniform?

Answer: H2O

Curly has the number H2O, Larry has 6 7/8, Moe has 13 and the striped horse the guards bring in has number 13 on it. The boys use their ball and chains to play a bowling game in the jail yard. The same jail sequences were reused again in the Stooges feature "Beer Barrel Polecats".
9. While the boys are breaking rocks, a guard orders them to paint a cell block. Which cell block do they have to paint?

Answer: Cell block number six

The boys are given black paint and told to paint cell block number six. Cell block number nine was made famous in the song "There's a Riot Goin' On". Sly and the Family Stone had an album of the same name. The boys use the paint to paint their uniforms and look like guards. Of course, they forget to paint the backs of the uniforms.
10. At the end of the film they're making good their escape and meet the bond owner again as he's being escorted into jail. What is his real name?

Answer: Lone Wolf Louie

The cops inform the Stooges that B.O. Davis is actually Lone Wolf Louie, the biggest bond swindler in the country. The Stooges wind up back in jail breaking rocks over Curly's head. Moe and Larry are briefly seen breaking character as the scene ends. They put a real rock on Curly's head and he protests. Moe usually portrays the boss of the trio.

He's actually the oldest, born in 1897. Ironically he outlived the others.
