The team at "Focus On The Family" was considering a radio drama, but first, they wanted to run a test program to see how the listening audience would respond. "Family Portraits" aired thirteen weekly episodes before "Adventures In Odyssey" was launched.
2. Who is the main character on the show?

Answer: John Avery Whittaker

John Avery Whittaker, better known simply as Whit, was introduced in the first episode of "Family Portraits". He went on to serve as a long-standing main character on "Adventures In Odyssey" and is still there.
3. Whit has been on the show since its inception in the 1980s, but the character has been voiced by three different actors. Which of these actors WAS NOT one of them?

Answer: Alan Young

Hal Smith, who also played the role of Odis Campbell on "The Andy Griffith show", was the original voice of Whit, from the first episode until he died in 1994. While "Focus On The Family" searched for a new actor, the character Whit was sent on a two-year archaeological expedition. Paul Herlinger provided the voice of Whit from 1996 until his retirement in 2008.

He died in 2009 and was replaced by Andre Stojka, who still voices Whit in current episodes. Alan Young plays the role of Jack Allen, who was a stand-in for Whit between 1994 and 1996.

This is an episode about failure. Through one of his flop inventions, Whit teaches a young boy to keep trying even when he fails.

Connie Kendall is a longstanding main character on this show. She has been on since Episode 4, and she's always been voiced by the same person. Connie is not a Christian when she first moves to Odyssey, and throughout her early time on the show, she talks about moving back to California, which she eventually does in Episode 51, a two-part episode simply entitled "Connie".

Then she goes back to Odyssey earlier than expected, and in Part 2 of this episode, she becomes a Christian. This is a very touching episode.
6. In Episode 125, "All's Well With Boswell," What kind of animal is the titular character?

Answer: cat

In this episode, Robyn Jacobs faces the task of taking care of someone's cat for a day. The title bares this cat's name, Boswell. At first, Robyn thinks she is going to be bored with only this cat for a whole day. But the episode gets very interesting once her friend Jessie is involved. Through a series of events, all three eventually get lost and end up sneaking into Tom Riley's truck, which happens to be passing by.

The truck leads them back to Odyssey. This episode is very funny. On a sidenote, sound engineer Bob Lutrell actually stayed in his studio with a cat for hours, just to get the right sounds for Boswell! Source: "The Complete Guide to Adventures In Odyssey"
7. Members of the Barclay family are all named after characters and actors from what classic Christmas film?

Answer: It's a Wonderful Life

Husband and wife George and Mary Barclay are named for George and Mary Bailey, lead characters in "It's a Wonderful Life". Brother and sister Jimmy and Donna are named for the actors Jemmy Stewart and Donna Reed. And when a new addition to the family arrives in Episode 294, "Unto Us a Child Is Born", he is named Stewart Reed.

The Barclay's time on the show eventually culminates in the two-part episode, "It's a Pokenberry Christmas", 385 and 386which follows a similar plotline as the movie. Jimmy Barclay appears again in "Living In The Gray", Episodes 535 and 536.
8. Regis Blackgaard is a villain type of character on the show. Who is his accomplice?

Answer: Richard Maxwell

Regis is a rather dark character who intends to destroy Whit's End. He uses Richard Maxwell and his computer skills to help in the sinister plan.
