Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Before setting his sights on Professional Wrestling, Randy Poffo aka Randy Savage actually aspired to have a career in what professional sport?

Answer: Baseball

Although the son of the great Angelo Poffo, a standout wrestler in the 1950s and 1960s, Randy Poffo had actually desired to play professional baseball. Poffo played in the minor leagues for several years for the Cincinnati Reds and the St Louis Cardinals. Poffo would wrestle as a means to make ends meet during the off seasons and eventually followed in his father's footsteps.
2. What famous wrestler and booker of the 1970s and early 1980s is credited with giving Randy Poffo the last name of Savage?

Answer: Ole Anderson

When young Randy began to wrestle full time he employed a wild and reckless ring style which impressed many. It also caused Poffo his fair share of injuries. One night as a bloody and battered Poffo waited to be stitched up by a physician the infamous Ole Anderson actually gave him his wrestling surname.

It is said that Anderson upon looking at Poffo's bloody vistage said "Poffo, that is not the right name, he wrestles like a savage." The rest is history
3. After competing in various territories Savage caught a real break working in Memphis for Jerry Lawler. What famous 1980s heartthrob did Savage pile drive through an announcing table in the summer of 1984?

Answer: Ricky Morton

Upon his arrival in Jerry Lawler's Memphis territory, Randy Savage really developed into a full fledged wrestling star. It was the combination of Lawler and promoter Jerry Jarrett that pushed him as a main event heel. In addition to many bloody matches with Lawler, Savage and his real life brother Lanny Poffo feuded with The Rock and Roll Express.

In June 1984 Savage pile drove Ricky Morton right through the announcers table.
4. One of Randy Savage's longtime rivals in the WWF was this eccentric wrestler who was more concerned with winning the heart of Savage's valet Elizabeth. Who was this man?

Answer: George "The Animal" Steele

In late 1985, Randy "Macho Man" Savage began a long rivalry with the eccentric and dangerous George "The Animal" Steele. Steele was immediately taken with the beauty of Savage's valet the lovely Elizabeth. In fact even after Randy had won the WWF Intercontinental Title, George seemed more obsessed with winning the love of Elizabeth than the coveted title.

The feud raged on for more than a year and half with Savage finally defeating Steele in a "Lumberjack Match" on a segment of "Saturday Nights Main Event" where the winner won the services of Elizabeth.
5. During his initial heel run in the WWF from 1985-1987, which WWF announcer liked to provoke Savage by calling him "The Not So Macho Man"?

Answer: Gorilla Monsoon

After introducing the fans of the WWF to the gorgeous Elizabeth Hulette in the summer of 1985, Savage grew very insecure and protective in his treatment of her. Savage would get irate if someone asked her a direct question or even complimented her on her charming looks.

Inside the ring Savage would often pull the petite manager in front of him to protect him from other wrestlers. This cowardly act prompted the late, great Gorilla Monsoon to call him "The Not So Macho Man". In reality Elizabeth was Savage's real life wife and he was very concerned with how she was portrayed on television.
6. In the fall of 1988, this non nonsense wrestler, accused Randy Savage, now a face and the WWF Heavyweight Champion of ducking his challenges. He even went so far as to claim Elizabeth had done special favors for WWF President Jack Tunney to ensure a bout never was signed. Who was this?

Answer: Bad News Brown

In the fall of 1988, the then unbeaten Bad News Brown on a segment of the infamous "Brother Love Show" claimed that Randy Savage was afraid to defend the title against him. Furthermore Brown claimed the Savage's valet Elizabeth had done some special favors for Jack Tunney so that Brown would be overlooked as a challenger.

The bait worked as a livid Savage stormed out to the set and attacked Brown and the two had a brief feud during the closing months of 1988.
7. At "Wrestlemania X" on March 20, 1994, Randy Savage made his final "Wrestlemania" appearance and faced his former friend Crush. What type of match did they engage in at that event?

Answer: "Falls Count Anywhere Match"

In the fall of 1993, the popular Hawaiian Crush made a heel turn against his former friend and mentor Randy Savage. Crush had been upset that after being injured by Yokozuna, Savage had never bothered to contact him during the recovery period. On a segment of "Monday Night Raw" Crush, egged on by Bobby Heenan and Mr Fuji, completed a heel turn by attacking Savage.

The feud raged for several months until Savage defeated Crush in a "Falls Count Anywhere Match" at "Wrestlemania X". Savage would depart the WWF in October 1994 for the greener pastures of WCW.
8. In 1997, Savage, now with WCW, engaged in a brutal and bloody feud with this popular star of the era. Who was it?

Answer: Diamond Dallas Page

In early 1997, Randy Savage returned to WCW after a brief sabbatical and promptly joined the ranks of the hated "NWO". Savage immediately became embroiled in a bitter feud with the immensely popular Diamond Dallas Page. The rivalry lasted for several months and culminated when Savage defeated DDP at "Halloween Havoc '97" in a "Las Vegas Sudden Death Match".
9. On July 11, 1999 at "Bash at The Beach '99", Randy Savage won the WCW Heavyweight Title for the fourth and final time. Which of the following three wrestlers was not involved in that match?

Answer: Ric Flair

In the main event of the 1999 "Bash at the Beach" saw Sting and WCW Heavyweight Champion Kevin Nash battle Randy Savage and Sid Vicious. Although a tag team match the rules were modified in that whichever wrestler scored the winning fall would win the WCW Heavyweight Title. Savage used his trademark flying elbow to pin Nash and thus took home the belt for the last time. Savage's reign was brief as the following night on "Nitro" Nash's interference caused him to lose the strap to "Hollywood" Hogan.
10. What particular brand of snack food was Randy Savage the spokesperson for during the 1990s?

Answer: Slim Jims

"Snap into a Slim Jim, Oh Yeah" was Randy Savage's popular catchphrase while he served as the snack foods official spokesperson for several years.
