Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the real name of the wrestler known as Sergeant Slaughter?

Answer: Robert Remus

The man known as Sgt Slaughter who has entertained wrestling fans for many years was born in August 1948 and named Robert Remus. Immediately after graduating from High School Remus enlisted in The United States Marine Corps and eventually attained the rank of Sergeant. Remus also served as a drill instructor at the famous Parris Island, South Carolina boot camp.
2. In 1980, Slaughter arrived for his first stint in the WWF where he was immediately despised. What popular wrestler of the era defeated him in a bloody "Alley Fight" in Madison Square Garden on May 4, 1981?

Answer: Pat Patterson

In 1980-1981, Slaughter had his first stint in the WWF where he was managed by the late, great Grand Wizard. Slaughter quickly became embroiled in a bitter and bloody war with the popular Pat Patterson. Their feud culminated on May 4, 1981 when Patterson defeated Slaughter in a bloody "Alley Fight" in Madison Square Garden.

The bout ended when The Grand Wizard rushed down to ringside and threw the towel in for his protege, ending the brutal bloodbath. Ironically it had been Patterson who had worked with Remus in the AWA that secured a position for him with The McMahons.
3. On March 12, 1983 Sgt. Slaughter and Don Kernodle lost the NWA Tag Team Titles in a bloody "Steel Cage Match" at The Greensboro Coliseum. What team defeated them on this night?

Answer: Rick Steamboat and Jay Youngblood

On March 12, 1983, the hated duo of Sergeant Slaughter and Don Kernodle lost The NWA Tag Team Titles to the popular team of Jay Youngblood and Rick Steamboat. The match was a memorable "Steel Cage Match" that was held at the famous Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina. This was one of the favorite venues of the NWA when they were run by The Crocketts.
4. On June 16, 1984 at Madison Square Garden, Sergeant Slaughter defeated The Iron Sheik in Madison Square Garden in a bloody "Boot Camp Match". What object did Sarge hit The Sheik with to score a pin?

Answer: The Sheik's Boot

In 1983, Slaughter returned to the WWF and in 1984 a chance encounter with the hated Iron Sheik caused a violent and bitter rivalry. The Sarge and The Sheik engaged in many bloody soaked matches, some of which had to be stopped. On June 16, 1984 the two rivals set Madison Square Garden ablaze when they competed in a no holds barred "Boot Camp Match" which Slaughter won by clobbering The Sheik with one of his own curved boots.

The feud did continue as The Sheik and manager Fred Blassie sent out for reinforcements in the form of the burly Russian Nikolai Volkoff.
5. On June 21, 1985, Sergeant Slaughter, now with the AWA, won the AWA Americas Title. What notorious heel did he beat?

Answer: Larry Zbyszko

In December 1984, literally at the very height of his popularity, Sgt. Slaughter suddenly bolted from the WWF. No official reason has ever been given but some say it resulted from Slaughter's demand for a paid vacation, McMahon not wanting him involved with the popular 1980s cartoon "GI Joe: A Real American Hero", or even Hulk Hogan's insecurity that Slaughter's popularity would outshine his.

In January 1985 Sarge arrived in the AWA and after dogging Larry Zbyszko for several months defeated him for the AWA Americas Title.
6. On September 28, 1985, the AWA presented the first ever "Superclash". What Russian did Sergeant Slaughter defend the AWA Americas Title against that night?

Answer: Boris Zhukov

Upon winning the AWA Americas Title, Slaughter immediately became embroiled in a bitter war against Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissey and his army of "Anti American" wrestlers. On September 28, 1985 Slaughter successfully defended the AWA Americas Title against rugged Russian Boris Zhukov. Several years earlier Zhukov was known as Private Jim Nelson in the NWA and was one of Slaughter's lackeys with Don Kernodle.
7. On December 13, 1988 Sergeant Slaughter defeated this infamous 1980s AWA heel in a "Boot Camp Match" at "Superclash III". Who was it?

Answer: Colonel DeBeers

After taking a hiatus from the industry in 1987, Sarge returned to the AWA in the fall of 1988 and immediately started a bitter war with brutal South African Colonel DeBeers. At "Superclash III" on December 13, 1988 Sarge defeated his rival The Colonel in a bloody "Boot Camp Match". Slaughter would remain with the AWA right up until the summer of 1990 when he returned to the WWF.
8. On November 22, 1990 at "The Survivor Series", Sergeant Slaughter captained a four man team in one of the card's elimination matches. Which of the following men was not one of his three partners on that night?

Answer: Akeem

Upon his return to the WWF in the summer of 1990, Slaughter was given the role of an Iraqi sympathizer amid The Persian Gulf Crisis. He also renewed his feud with Russian Nikolai Volkoff who had made a face turn and embraced The American Way of Life. On that night Volkoff teamed with Tito Santana and The Bushwhackers to face Slaughter, Boris Zhukov and Pat Tanaka and Akio Sato aka The Orient Express.

Originally the mammoth Akeem was to be one of Sarge's teammates but he left the company and was replaced with Zhukov.
9. In the first half of 1991 Slaughter feuded with Hulk Hogan over the WWF Heavyweight Title with "The Persian Gulf War" as the backdrop. On June 3, 1991 in Madison Square Garden they battled in what type of match?

Answer: " A Desert Storm Match"

In January 1991, with the assistance of Randy Savage, Sergeant Slaughter was able to wrest the WWF Heavyweight Title from The Ultimate Warrior at "The Royal Rumble". On March 24, 1991 Slaughter lost the title to the incomparable Hulk Hogan at "Wrestlemania VII".

The feud continued to rage on and the two enemies met in Madison Square Garden on June 3, 1991 in what was called a "Desert Storm Match". Basically it was an anything goes type of gimmick bout which saw Hogan wear camo colors, a gas mask and emerge the victor. That fall Slaughter realized the error of his ways and once again became a beloved American icon.
10. Even though his career is over the ever colorful Slaughter has appeared from time to time wrestling some newer stars who may have needed an attitude adjustment. Which of the following stars has Slaughter not faced?

Answer: Booker T

Even after his retirement and taking a front office position with the WWF in late 1992 Sarge had remained active. In December 1997 at "The De Generation X" Pay Per View Slaughter faced the cocky Hunter Hearst Helmsley in a "Boot Camp Match". In 1998 and 1999 he portrayed one of the stooges of the evil Mr. McMahon alongside Pat Patterson and Jerry Brisco.

He has also battled young lions like Randy Orton and Kurt Angle in "Boot Camp Matches" proving he can still get in the ring when he needs to. In 2004 Slaughter was honored with an induction in the WWE Hall of Fame alongside such greats as Greg Valentine, Harley Race, Tito Santana and The Junkyard Dog.
