Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Scooby-Doo and the Mystery, Inc. gang were introduced to the TV screen in 1969 in what television series?

Answer: Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!

Created by Hanna-Barbera Productions, Inc., "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" was originally aired on CBS from September 1969 to October 1970. It had two seasons and 25 episodes. Each episode of this series, and the ones that came after, consisted of four teenagers (Fred, Shaggy, Velma, and Daphne) and their talking Great Dane, Scooby-Doo, finding themselves in the middle of some sort of mystery, usually involving some supernatural creature.

They would then gather clues and build traps until they caught the bad guy, who would be unmasked to reveal someone who was using the disguise to hide a crime of some sort.
2. In 1972 a new "Scooby-Doo" series aired, "The New Scooby-Doo Movies", which featured guests stars, either real people or characters from other shows. Who of the following was NOT featured in an episode?

Answer: Jonny Quest

Twenty-four hour-long episodes of "The New Scooby-Doo Movies" were released from 1972 through 1974 also on CBS. Like "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!", the plots involved the Mystery Inc. gang solving strange mysteries, but this time with the help of special guest stars. Some of the other guest stars included the Three Stooges, Batman and Robin, Dick Van Dyke, and Josie and the Pussycats.
3. In the late '80s three TV movies starring only Shaggy, Scooby-Doo, and Scooby's nephew, Scrappy-Doo, were created. Which of the following was NOT one of them?

Answer: Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster

The three TV movies were "Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers" (1987), "Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School" (1988), and "Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf" (1988). All three dealt with real monsters, not just people in costumes.

The movies were part of a series of ten TV movies released by Hanna-Barbera, known as the Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10. Other movies in the series starred Yogi Bear, the Flintstones, the Jetsons, Huckleberry Hound, and Top Cat.
4. What was the name of the TV series that took place during the gang's younger years?

Answer: A Pup Named Scooby-Doo

"A Pup Named Scooby-Doo" ran on ABC from September 1988 to August 1991 for four seasons. It followed the young members of the Scooby-Doo Detective Agency as they solved mysteries in their hometown of Coolsville.
5. In the 1998 direct-to-video movie "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island", were the zombies the bad guys?

Answer: No

"Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island" followed Scooby-Doo and his friends to Moonscar Island in Louisiana where they meet some seemingly nice people. However, they turned out to be cursed werecats who had been living on the island and killing people for centuries.

The zombies had been their victims and tried to help the Mystery Inc. gang. In the end, the good guys defeated the werecats by ending their curse and killing them.
6. What was the name of the fictional rock band that was introduced in the movie "Scooby-Doo! and the Witch's Ghost" (1999) and later seen in other "Scooby-Doo" movies and TV show episodes?

Answer: The Hex Girls

Another direct-to-video movie, "Scooby-Doo! and the Witch's Ghost", followed the gang to the small town of Oakhaven, Massachusetts after meeting a writer named Ben Ravencroft who invited them to visit. The town was home to a local legend that told of a witch named Sarah Ravencroft, who was said to hunt the town. In an attempt to gain tourists, the townspeople tried to make the legend seem real, and the Mystery Inc. members tried to solve the mystery. The Hex Girls had been suspects, but when the gang found out they were innocent, they became friends. When Ben read the diary of his ancestor, however, the ghost really did come back. The gang, with help from the Hex Girls, were able to stop them both by imprisoning them in the book.

The Hex Girls also appeared in the movie "Scooby-Doo! and the Legend of the Vampire" in 2003, in a 2003 episode of "What's New, Scooby-Doo?", and two episodes of the "Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated" series, one in 2010 and one in 2013.
7. Which character(s) had a love interest included in "Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders" (2000)?

Answer: Shaggy and Scooby-Doo

"Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders", another direct-to-video movie, brought the Mystery Inc. crew to a small desert town where their van broke down. While they were waiting for it to be fixed they stumbled upon a mystery involving aliens. Shaggy and Scooby met Crystal and her golden retriever, Amber, who they quickly fell for.

However, they turned out to be aliens in disguise, while the fake aliens were really government workers trying to illegally mine gold. Of course, the Mystery Inc. gang and their new alien friends stop them.

In the end, Crystal and Amber returned to their home planet, leaving Shaggy and Scooby-Doo heartbroken.
8. What was the name of the bad guy in the 2001 direct-to-video movie, "Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase"?

Answer: The Phantom Virus

In "Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase", the gang had gone to visit their friend, Eric, at a college. They end up being sucked into the video game he had created, along with the Phantom Virus. They had to beat the video and defeat the virus with help from video game versions of themselves. It was later revealed that a fellow student named Bill had created the virus out of jealousy.
