Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On January 21, 1990 at "The Royal Rumble" The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers wrestled their last match in The WWF as a team. Who were their opponents?

Answer: The Bushwhackers

After three and a half years The Rougeaus faced longtime adversaries The Bushwackers in their last WWF appearance together. Raymond, suffering with chronic back ailments, would serve as a French color commentator until 1997. The following year at The 1991 "Royal Rumble" Jacques would debut his "Mountie" persona.
2. Every year since its inception one participant makes a stellar showing in The Rumble Match. This star, while many times not the winner, puts on a show of stamina and conditioning by being the longest entrant. Who lasted the longest at The 1990 event?

Answer: Ted Dibiase

What a difference a year makes as Dibiase , who literally paid for number 30 the previous year would draw number 1 in 1990. Like him or not Ted Dibiase was a first rate wrestler and proved this by lasting an incredible 44 minutes and 47 seconds being eliminated by The Ultimate Warrior.
3. In early 1990 Mr. Fuji decided to split up the Powers of Pain by selling their contracts individually to different managers. The Barbarian became of protege of Bobby "The Brain" Heenan where he would stay for a year and a half. What manager assumed the managerial services for the mighty Warlord?

Answer: Slick

In one of the worst moves ever the bookers decided to split up The Powers of Pain into singles stars. This probably would have been okay but neither got very much in the way of a singles push. The Barbarian joined "The Heenan Family" and adopted a fiercer more rustic look, wearing a crown of antlers.

The Warlord dropped the face paint, shaved off what was left of his hair, wore a Phantom of The Opera type metal mask and carried a giant steel staff with a W on it. What a waste!
4. One of the main reasons why Mr. Fuji ditched The Powers of Pain was he had become the manager of another duo dubbed The Orient Express. Who were the original members of this team?

Answer: Pat Tanaka and Akio Sato

Arriving in March 1990 The Orient Express was originally comprised of Pat Tanaka and Akio Sato. In December 1990 Sato suddenly bolted from The WWF and the masked Kato was brought in as Tanaka's new partner. This was actually a reunion of sorts as Kato was really veteran Paul Diamond who was Tanaka's partner in a team called Badd Company. That team held the AWA Tag Team Titles from 1988 thru 1989.
5. On April 1, 1990 at "Wrestlemania VI" Demolition made history when they defeated The Colossal Connection to begin their third run as WWF Tag Team Champions. Before Ax and Smash only one other team had done this impressive task. Who was that team?

Answer: The Wild Samoans

Ax and Smash defeated Andre the Giant and Haku aka The Colossal Connection in what would be The Giant's last appearance at a WWF Pay Per View event. It truly was very sad looking back on this night as one could just see the pain and suffering Andre was going through. The ravages of Acromegaly had left him a shell of his former self, he wasn't legally involved in the match once.
6. Also at "Wrestlemania VI" Mr. Perfect suffered a very rare pinfall loss. Which WWF star was able to get a three count on Perfect this night?

Answer: Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake

Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake a longtime favorite of fans got the impressive pinfall victory over Mr. Perfect in The Skydome. These two men had been feuding ever since "The Royal Rumble" when Beefcake attempted to shear the hair of Perfect's manager The Genius. Perfect attacked Beefcake and injured his ribs by hitting him several times with a steel chair. Again looking back this win was especially sweet for Brutus as just three months later a freak para-sailing accident would derail his career for two and half years.

While he did compete again he was never a top star anymore.
7. In one of The night's featured matches Jake "The Snake" Roberts battled Ted Dibiase for possession of "The Million Dollar Belt". At the bout's conclusion Jake took a fistful of $100 bills and began handing them out among the crowd. What actress was sitting front row and got a hundred bucks from Roberts?

Answer: Mary Tyler Moore

After losing the bout by a count out to Dibiase, Jake was able to hit his trademark DDT which put the heel out cold. He subsequently took some of Teddy's cash and began to randomly hand it out to fans. Mary Tyler Moore was ringside and got some extra cash this night.
8. In the spring of 1990 a new character was introduced WWF fans, the 400lbs. Maritime Sailor Tugboat. For a very brief period of time he went by a surname as well before it was shortened to just Tugboat. What was it?

Answer: Tugboat Thomas

For a very brief period of time Tugboat wrestled as Tugboat Thomas. Within weeks the charismatic sailor had become very popular and soon was a regular tag team partner of WWF Champion Hulk Hogan and Hacksaw Jim Duggan. In reality Tugboat aka Fred Ottman was the real life brother in law to Dusty Rhodes.
9. Shortly after winning the WWF Tag Team Titles for the third time Demolition made an abrupt heel switch and introduced a third member known as Crush. The real reason for this was because Ax had a physical ailment which prevented him from wrestling for prolonged matches. What was this?

Answer: He had an allergic reaction to shellfish

Immediately after "Wrestlemania VI" Demolition joined many other WWF stars in a tour of Japan and the Orient. It was during this trip that Ax aka Bill Eadie suffered a severe allergic reaction to some shellfish. The reaction was so bad that Eadie suffered from an irregular heartbeat for several months. Thus Crush was immediately hired as third man and became the regular partner for Smash while Ax served in a managerial role until his departure in November 1990.
10. When the Ultimate Warrior defeated Hulk Hogan for The WWF Heavyweight Title he was forced to vacate The WWF Intercontinental Title. An eight man tournament was immediately set up and eventually won by Mr. Perfect. What veteran wrestler did Perfect beat in the final match?

Answer: Tito Santana

Mr. Perfect finally got his taste of gold by defeating veteran Tito Santana in a televised match to win the coveted WWF Intercontinental Title. That same night Perfect introduced his new manager to be Bobby Heenan who played an integral part in the bout's outcome.
11. In mid 1990 this former WCCW Heavyweight Champion and WCW star had a blink and you will miss it stint as a television jobber. Who was it?

Answer: Al Perez

Al Perez had previously had tremendous successes wherever he competed. In WCCW he defeated Kevin Von Erich for The WCCW Heavyweight Title in 1987 and held that belt until dropping it to Kerry Von Erich in March 1988. He and manager Gary Hart soon left for WCW where he had impressive matches against stars like Nikita Koloff, Steve Williams and Jimmy Garvin.

However Vince McMahon likes to degrade other promotions stars so in The WWF Al Perez was a television jobber losing to Tito Santana, Koko B. Ware and even The Red Rooster. Now that's bad!
12. During the summer of 1990 Hacksaw Jim Duggan reconciled with one of his oldest rivals. Together the two defeated The Orient Express at "Summerslam'90". Who was this wrestler?

Answer: Nikolai Volkoff

In mid 1990 Volkoff parted ways with his Bolshevik tag team partner Boris Zhukov and embraced the American way of life. Volkoff even became an American citizen and would later rekindle his rivalry with Sgt. Slaughter who returned in August 1990 as an Iraqi sympathizer.
13. In September 1990 a very popular African American star of the early and mid 1980's returned for a very brief stint. This star had embraced his African culture and now adopted a tribal name of Saba Simba. Who was this star?

Answer: Tony Atlas

Atlas has left the WWF in the summer of 1986 and had stints in both WCCW and ICW where he was The Heavyweight Champion of that federation. In 1990 Atlas reached out to Vince McMahon who brought him back with the Saba Simba gimmick. It was terrible and thankfully Tony was gone by early 1991. Atlas actually had a another run, this time as a manager, from 2007-2008 working with Mark Henry.
14. The 1990 "Survivor Series" witnessed a first in the four year history of the event. This feat that had never been accomplished before was one entire team of four members survived their match intact, not a single elimination from their squad. What team accomplished this impressive feat?

Answer: Rick Martel's "Visionaries"

"The Visionaries" who included team captain Rick Martel along with The Warlord, Hercules Hernandez and Paul Roma remained intact for their match. They faced "The Vipers" which included team captain Jake Roberts, Jimmy Snuka and The Rockers. Roberts and Martel were feuding at the time as Martel had temporarily blinded "The Snake" by spraying his fragrance "Arrogance" in his eyes on an October 1990 segment of "The Brother Love Show'.
15. On sad note the day before the 1990 "Survivor Series" The famous Hart family suffered their first loss. One of the eight sons of the legendary Stu and Helen Hart and brother to Bret and Owen Hart died. Which son was this?

Answer: Dean Hart

Dean Hart died in November 1990 at the young age of 36 after suffering many years with Bright's Disease, an illness which affects the kidneys. While Hart did do some wrestling in his native Canada for his father's Stampede promotion he did not compete for long and had little success.
