On the March 1, 1986 episode of "Saturday Night's Main Event", the WWE Tag Team Champions, the Dream Team, beat the British Bulldogs in a rematch with the titles being defended. Greg Valentine pinned the Dynamite Kid to win the match.

At the WWE's 1986 "Wrestlemania 2" event, The British Bulldogs defeated the WWE Tag Team Champions, The Dream Team, for the title when Davey Boy Smith pinned Greg Valentine.

On the October 29, 1988 episode of "Saturday Night's Main Event", Jake "the Snake" Roberts defeated "Ravishing" Rick Rude by disqualification after Bobby "the Brain" Heenan interfered in the match. André the Giant then entered the ring and threw Jake "the Snake" Roberts over the top rope.

Jake "the Snake" Roberts came back into the ring with his snake, Damien. André the Giant collapsed in the ring from a mild heart attack after seeing Damien. André the Giant had a bad case of ophiophobia, the fear of snakes. This incident led to a feud between André the Giant and Jake "the Snake" Roberts which culminated in a a match at the WWE's 1989 "Wrestlemania 5" event.

In the summer of 1988, "Outlaw" Ron Bass injured Brutus "the Barber" Beefcake causing Beefcake to miss the 1998 WWE "Summerslam" event. To culminate their feud, Bass and Beefcake had a Haircut Match on the January 7, 1989 episode of "Saturday Night's Main Event". Beefcake won the match with a sleeperhold and gave Bass a haircut.

The WWE produced the 1989 film "No Holds Barred" which was released a week after the May 27, 1989 episode of "Saturday Night's Main Event". In the movie, Hulk Hogan's character wrestles a character named Zeus.

Before Hogan's WWE Championship defense in a Steel Cage Match against the Big Boss Man on this episode of "Saturday Night's Main Event", Slick brought Zeus to the ring. Zeus stood in front of the steel cage door to prevent Hogan from entering. Zeus attacked Hogan before the match started. Eventually Hogan won the match, but he began feud with Zeus because of the attack.

On the July 29, 1989 episode of "Saturday Night's Main Event", the Brain Busters challenged Demolition for the WWE Tag Team Championship in a Best of Three Falls match. Demolition was enjoying a then-record 478 day reign as WWE Tag Team Champions, a record surpassed by the New Day in 2016.

The teams split the first two falls. The Brain Busters won the third fall via pinfall after Tully Blanchard used a chair given to him to by André the Giant to hit Smash in the head. The Brain Busters became the WWE Tag Team Champions. After the match, members of the Heenan Family celebrated the title change in the ring.

On the November 25, 1989 episode of "Saturday Night's Main Event", the Genius defeated Hulk Hogan via count out. During the match, the Genius' protégé, Mister Perfect, was at ringside holding Hogan's WWE Championship. Mister Perfect hit Hogan with the belt causing the count out. At the end of the show, Mister Perfect and the Genius destroying the WWE Championship belt with a hammer.

On the February 8, 1992 episode of "Saturday Night's Main Event", the Mountie used his shock stick to win back the the WWE Intercontinental Championship from "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. The shock stick didn't work on Piper because he was wearing a shock proof vest under his shirt. Piper grabbed the shock stick on the Mountie to get the victory.

On the November 14, 1992 episode of "Saturday Night's Main Event", Shawn Michaels defeated the British Bulldog via pinfall to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship. This was the first major singles title held by Shawn Michaels. This was the last match wrestled by the British Bulldog in the WWE until 1994.
