Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Naaman was a great warrior and his king respected him. He had won many battles. However Naaman was also very sick. What disease did he have?

Answer: leprosy

Naaman was a great warrior that was loved by his king and his people. However Naaman had leprosy. Leprosy was a skin disease that caused many sores and disfigured people's bodies. It also damaged nerves and caused people to lose parts of their body. (1 Kings 5:1)
2. Many people were sad that Naaman had an incurable disease. Who told Naaman's wife that Naaman could be healed by a prophet in Israel?

Answer: a Hebrew servant girl

Naaman's wife had a Hebrew servant girl who had been captured from Israel. Although the servant girl could have been angry at her master for taking her away from her home, the servant girl had pity on her master because he was so sick. She told his wife, "If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy". Naaman's wife told her husband what the servant girl had said. (1 Kings 5:2-3)
3. The king wanted Naaman to be healed very badly. He sent Naaman to Israel with gold, silver, clothing, and a very special letter. What did the king of Israel do when he read the letter?

Answer: He cried and ripped his clothes.

The king received a letter from Naaman's king that said "With this letter I am sending my servant Naaman to you so that you may cure him of his leprosy." The king panicked because he was not a doctor or God. He knew he could not cure Naaman and was afraid Naaman would attack Israel with his armies. (2 Kings 5:7)
4. Elisha was not happy at the king's reaction to Naaman's letter. What did he tell the king to do with Naaman?

Answer: "Send him to me so that he knows there is a prophet in Israel."

Kings were not supposed to rip their clothes unless it was a time of great grief or sorrow. It was a sign to everyone else to grieve with them. Elisha was upset because the king did not consider God could do something for Naaman. Elisha had the king send Naaman to his house so he could show that there was a prophet of God in Israel. (2 Kings 5:8)
5. Naaman went to Elisha's house. What did the prophet's servant tell Naaman to do at the Jordan river and he would be healed?

Answer: Wash yourself seven times.

Naaman arrived at Elisha's house with all his gifts and chariots. However Elisha did not come out to meet him. Elisha sent his servant out with a message. Naaman was told that he needed to go wash in the Jordan river seven times and he would be healed. (2 Kings 5:8-10)
6. Naaman was angry because he thought Elisha would do a great trick or miracle to heal him! He thought Elisha's instructions were too simple. What did his servant tell him?

Answer: "If it would have been a great thing, you would have done it. Why not obey the prophet's instructions?"

Naaman told his servant, "I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me. The Jordan river is nasty. Aren't there other rivers that are better?"

Naaman's servant told him, "If he had asked you to do a great deed, wouldn't you have done it? How much more should you do what he asks when he tells you to wash and be clean?"

Naaman listened and washed in the Jordan seven times. (2 Kings 5:13-14)
7. Naaman changed his mind and decided to listen to what Elisha told him. What happened when he followed the prophet's instructions?

Answer: His skin was made new like a young boy's.

Because Naaman obeyed the prophet's instructions, he was healed completely! God not only healed Naaman of his leprosy, but He made his skin brand new like a young boy's. (2 Kings 13:14)
8. Naaman went straight back to Elisha's house. What did Elisha do when he offered him gifts?

Answer: Elisha refused them.

Elisha told Naaman, "As surely as the Lord lives, whom I serve, I will not accept a thing." And even though Naaman pressured him, he refused. When Naaman saw that Elisha would not accept a reward for his healing, Naaman asked him for something. Naaman asked if he could carry back some dirt back to his country. Elisha let him have as much as Naaman's mules could carry. (2 Kings 5:16-17)
9. Naaman told Elisha he would only serve the God of Israel and make sacrifices to him.

Answer: True

Naaman was so happy God had healed him, he told Elisha he would not serve any other god. He told Elisha when he went home he would make sacrifices to the true God of Israel. However Naaman asked Elisha to forgive him because his master still served other gods. When his master prayed to other gods, Naaman would have to be there. Elisha told Naaman to go in peace. (2 Kings 5:17-18)
10. After Naaman left, Elisha's servant ran after him. What happened to him because he lied and asked Naaman for some gold and clothes?

Answer: He was struck with leprosy.

Elisha's servant ran after Naaman's chariot and stopped him. He lied and told Naaman that Elisha had asked for some silver and two sets of clothing because he had guests. Naaman gave Elisha's servant what he asked for. However when Elisha's servant came back, Elisha knew what he had done. Elisha told him that he and his family would have Naaman's leprosy forever.

As soon as he said it, his servant's skin turned white and he had Naaman's disease. (2 Kings 5:21-27)
