Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which of the following books is Dumbledore's Army created and its members have meetings in the Room of Requirement?

Answer: Order of the Phoenix

The DA is short for Dumbledore's Army. Professor Dolores Umbridge is the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts, sent from the Ministry of Magic. Cornelius Fudge, Minister of Magic, sent her and ordered her not to teach the students practical spells. Since Harry, Ron and Hermione are taking their O.W.L.s that year, they need to know how to do spells. Also, they need to be prepared for Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Harry teaches all of the DA defence skills.

They have all their meetings in the Room of Requirement. Members of the DA are from all houses except Slytherin.
2. In which of the following books are the Dursleys forced to move to a hut in the middle of the sea because of hundreds of letters addressed to Harry pouring into their house?

Answer: Philosopher's Stone

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry were writing to Harry to tell him he had been accepted to the school. When Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon wouldn't let Harry read the letters, hundreds came pouring in the house every way they could: through the letter box, the windows, the cracks in doors, even down the chimney.

The Dursleys moved to a hut on a rock in the middle of a stormy sea. That night, Hagrid came and told Harry he was a wizard and gave him the letter. The next day, they were off to Diagon Alley.
3. In which of the following books does Harry go to the Yule Ball with Parvati Patil?

Answer: Goblet of Fire

Harry asked Cho Chang to the Yule Ball but left it too late; she was already going with Cedric Diggory. Harry, who liked Cho for a long time, was embarrassed and upset. He asks Parvati Patil to go with him. Parvati's twin, Padma, went with Ron. Harry and Ron didn't dance with Parvati or Padma so they got mad and danced with boys from Beauxbatons.
4. In which of the following books does Harry blow up his Aunt Marge?

Answer: Prisoner of Azkaban

Vernon Dursley's sister, Marge, comes to stay with the Dursleys during the Summer. Even though she's not a blood relative, Harry is forced to call her "Aunt" all his life. She is very rude about Harry's parents and tells Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon she would have put Harry in an orphanage. Harry gets angry and gets out of control.

He does magic without helping it. He ends up making Aunt Marge swell up and she floats away in the sky. Workers from the Ministry of Magic have to deflate her and modify her memory.
5. In which of the following books does Harry learn about Voldemort's Horcruxes?

Answer: Half-Blood Prince

Horcruxes are objects that witches and wizards contain part of their soul in. To make a Horcrux, the person has to murder someone. So basically, the creator of the Horcrux is taking someone else's life, and using it to their own advantage for a second chance at life. Voldemort made seven Horcruxes.

They are: Tom Riddle's diary, Marvolo Gaunt's ring, Slytherin's locket, Ravenclaw's Diadem, Hufflepuff's cup, Nagini and Harry Potter. Harry Potter wasn't meant to be a Horcrux but when Voldemort first tried to kill him, part of his soul attached itself to Harry.

This is why Harry is a Parselmouth. J.K. Rowling said in an interview that after the Horcrux in Harry was destroyed, his gift of being a Parselmouth vanished.
6. In which of the following books does Rita Skeeter publish "The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore"?

Answer: Deathly Hallows

After Dumbledore dies, Rita Skeeter writes his biography, "The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore". It is full of lies. She interviews Bathilda Bagshot, an old friend of Dumbledore, for it. The book tells of how Dumbledore used to be friends with Gellert Grindelwald, whom he dueled with in 1945. Grindelwald was the owner of the Elder Wand at the time, and after Dumbledore beat him, he became the owner. Dumbledore and Grindelwald were best friends in their late teens, when Grindelwald came to visit his Aunt Bathilda.

They planned muggle rebellions and their slogan was "For the Greater Good." The book also tells lies about Dumbledore's family.
7. In which of the following books is Voldemort reincarnated into a single body?

Answer: Goblet of Fire

Voldemort was reincarnated into a single human body with the help of Wormtail. Voldemort wanted some of Harry's blood in his veins so that he would have Lily's protection too and would be able to touch him. During the last task in the Triwizard Tournament, Barty Crouch Jr. (disguised as Mad-Eye Moody) made the Cup must be touched to win a Portkey. Harry and Cedric Diggory were transported to a graveyard where Voldemort and Wormtail were waiting. Wormtail killed Cedric.

He then put Voldemort's body in a potion.

He took a bone from Voldemort's father's grave, flesh from his own arm and blood from Harry's veins. Voldemort was back.
8. In which of the following books does Harry have his first kiss?

Answer: Order of the Phoenix

Harry's first kiss is with Cho Chang. It is in the Room of Requirement after a DA meeting. Cho is crying about Cedric Diggory, who died the previous year and was Cho's boyfriend. Harry comforts her and they kiss. Their first and last date is to Hogsmeade on Valentine's Day.

They go to Madam Puddifoot's Teashop and Harry tells Cho he is going to the Three Broomsticks to meet Hermione Granger. Cho takes it the wrong way, and even though Harry invited her along with him she runs out of the shop crying. That is the end to Harry and Cho's relationship.
9. In which of the following books does Harry learn how to make a Patronus?

Answer: Prisoner of Azkaban

Professor Remus Lupin taught him how to make a Patronus. Lupin was the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher at the time. A Patronus is a guardian to the caster against Dementors. Patronuses take the form of the casters' personalities. Dementors are soul-sucking creatures that drain the happiness out of a person, and if they can, suck your soul out. Harry's Patronus takes the form of a stag.

His father, James, was an Animagus (someone who can transform into an animal at will). James's Animagus form was a stag. Harry teaches the members of the DA how to produce Patronuses in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix".
10. In which of the following books does Harry travel by the Floo Network for the first time?

Answer: Chamber of Secrets

Travelling in the Floo Network means that you travel by fireplaces. You throw Floo Powder into the fire and the flames turn emerald green. Then you step into the flames, say your destination very clearly and start to turn around very fast. When the turning stops, you're at your destination in their fireplace. Harry uses Floo Powder to go from The Burrow to Diagon Alley in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets". You can also just transport your head. That way you can talk to the person on the other end of the fireplace without your full body going through.
