Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A FLU SCUM OILY

Answer: Lucius Malfoy

Lucius Malfoy is Draco Malfoy's father, a Death Eater. When Voldemort fell, he came over to the good side, saying he was bewitched to do as the Dark Lord wanted him to do. He gave the Riddle's diary to Ginny Weasley. Three years later, he was in charge for getting the prophecy about Harry Potter and Voldemort, but failed.

He's in jail in most of the sixth book. For added info, Reference.com says: The name Lucius may come from the Roman Dictator Lucius Sulla, who extrajudiciously executed his rivals.

His name could also be a reference to the Roman Emperor Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, also known as Nero. Malfoy is derived from the French mal foie or mal foy, meaning bad faith or unfaithful. He was a follower of Lord Voldemort, but left his master after he was defeated by one-year-old Harry Potter. Malfoy claimed he'd been bewitched by Voldemort and hadn't meant to serve him. Though this explanation was accepted by the Ministry of Magic, some, such as Arthur Weasley, believed it was a lie, which it was.
2. DESK TONT

Answer: Ted Tonks

Ted Tonks married Andromeda Black, which resulted to her being blasted off the Black Family Tree. He's a muggle and the father of Nymphadora Tonks, and according to his daughter, is a slob. Andromeda (Tonks)-In Greek mythology, Andromeda should be married to her uncle Phineus but marries Perseus, the famous hero, instead. (Andromeda Black marries Ted Tonks, a Muggle, and is erased from the family tree). Phineus sounds like Phineas Nigellus, Sirius' great-great-grandfather.

In the Old Testament, Phineas kills an Israelite man for being in love with a woman who belongs to another ethnical group.

As our Phineas was a Slytherin teacher, this can't be coincidence! thanks mugglenet!
3. SLAY FEW DEER

Answer: Fred Weasley

Fred Weasley is one of the twins in the Weasley family -- a practical joker, a loyal friend and hates Umbridge (well, who doesn't?). The full family tree of the Weasleys is on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weasley_family#Gideon_and_Fabian_Prewett
4. COB BORDER DIKE

Answer: Broderick Bode

Is one of the victims of Voldemort, being imperiused to try and get the prophecy in which states the reason why Voldemort tried to kill Harry Potter as a baby and how to kill him. To Voldemort's dismay, and to Broderick Bode's loss, he found out that the only one that can lift off the prophecies in the hall of prophecies is the one to whom the prophecy was talking about. So, Broderick Bode suffered immense pain and was transfered to St. Mungo's where he started to recover.

When the news of his ongoing recovery reached Voldemort's ears, he sent a potted Devil's Snare, disguised as a small potted plant to him as a Christmas present.

When Bode tried to touch it, he got strangled and died.
5. NO LOON THAN VOID

Answer: Antonin Dolohov

Antonin Dolohov (name in American Edition of the book. The other edition had another first name for him, i forgot what it is.) was one of the escaped Death Eaters from Azkaban in January of 1995. He was convicted of the murder of the Prewetts. He was also one of the people who was with Lucius Malfoy during the mission of getting the Prophecy for the Dark Lord. They failed, as we all know and he was one of those who got captured along with how many others.
Dolohov-This Death Eater shares the name of a trouble-making character in Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace. thanks, mugglenet!
6. BERRY TOOT

Answer: Terry Boot

Terry Boot was a member of the D.A.
7. WRITHE SING W.

Answer: Witherwings

Witherwings is Buckbeak's new name. Buckbeak - To "buck" is the "action of a horse when it leaps upward and arches its back." A "beak" is the "mouth of a bird." Very suiting considering Buckbeak is a Hippogriff. Witherwings - "Withers" are "the place on a horse where the neck and shoulder muscles join." It is the peak at the top of the shoulders and the base of the neck, and is the tallest point of the horse.

It is where measurements are taken from. It is where the wings would attack (or grow from) if a horse had them.

The "wings" referring to the wings of an eagle. To "wither," also meaning to "lose freshness, vigor, or vitality." It is suiting his name is changed to this after Sirius dies. thanks, mugglenet!
8. TIDE PEW REG TON

Answer: Gideon Prewett

Gideon Prewett and his brother, Fabian, was murdered by Antonin Dolohov. Molly Weasley's maiden name was Prewett; meaning that she was the two brother's little sister. Fabian and Gideon were part of the original Order of the Pheonix while their little sister wasn't. I expect she wasn't of age yet.
9. RAT SITE REEK

Answer: Rita Skeeter

Rita Skeeter is the foul writer who writes not only hurtful lies about other people, but also exposes secrets that are meant to be, really just, secrets. She wrote horrible lies about Harry Potter and so many others. During the height of her writing career, the year 1994, she printed the news of Hagrid's parentage and how Harry Potter was a raving maniac who had been hurt by Hermione Granger (in terms of lovelife). She stopped her foul-mouthed writing when Hermione Granger, one of her victims ("Harry Potter's Secret Heartache") found out she was an illegal animagus and threatened to expose her secret to the Ministry of Magic. (And also, "Skeeter" means mosquito -- relating her name to a bug that she is!)
And also, Reference.com states: J. K. Rowling considered putting Rita, who was then called Bridget, in the first book for the scene where Harry enters the Leaky Cauldron on his way to Diagon Alley. Rowling cut the character and decided to move her to the fourth book.
However, Rowling notes she was reluctant to write the character when the time came, fearing people would be believe it was a response to her own fame. However, she did write the character and has noted that meeting with real journalists did make it more fun.
from J.K. Rowling's official site: she reckons she had wanted to put the infamous Weasley cousin into the fourth book instead of Rita. Her name was Mafalda and she was in Slytherin. But in the end, she decided on Rita instead.
10. SURE IN PLUM

Answer: Remus Lupin

Remus Lupin was a teacher in Harry's third year and the best friend of Sirius Black and James Potter. His name is quite fitting because Remus was the name of one of the twins who were raIsed by a she-wolf that built the city of Rome. On a different, but related subject, Sirius Black is also a fitting name for Sirius because "Sirius" means Great Dog and since he turns into a "Great black dog", "Sirius Black" is a name that fits this character.

His birthday is March 10.
11. AN BAR STRANGE LEAST

Answer: Rabastan Lestrange

Rabastan Lestrange is the brother of Rodolphus Lestrange -- Bellatrix's husband. He was also part of the Death Eater team that tried to get the Prophecy for the Dark Lord.
Rabastan (Lestrange) - "Rastaban" means "serpent's head." Not very surprising for a Death Eater. Rabastan is also a star in the constellation Beta Draconis. thanks, mugglenet!
12. A RIFF TAR

Answer: Fat Friar

He is the cheery Hufflepuff ghost.
13. HER A RECK

Answer: Kreacher

Kreacher is the Black Family house elf who has a personality of bee stings.
14. ROAD FEEL OR DUMB BERTH

Answer: Aberforth Dumbledore

Aberforth was Dumbledore's brother, who was in the original Order of the Phoenix photo Moody showed Harry in the fifth book. There are also theories that during the time when Dumbledore was in hiding (from fudge and the evil toad) Aberforth was the one that sheltered him. Aberforth - In Gaelic, it means "from the river." It is also the name of a small corporation in Edinburgh. thanks mugglenet!
