Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The wizard bank Gringotts is located hundreds of miles below London, deep under the Underground. Due to this, what does Hagrid say you are mostly likely to die of even if you manage to break into one of the vaults?

Answer: Hunger

Luckily for Professor Quirrell, he had Voldemort's dark powers on his side to help him escape unharmed.
2. Standing guard at the front door of Gringotts is a goblin wearing a uniform of which colors?

Answer: Scarlet and Gold

Scarlet and gold are also the house colors for Gryffindor. I wonder if the goblins also believe the colors stand for bravery and courage?
3. While inside Gringotts in "Sorcerer's Stone", Harry sees a goblin weighing a pile of jewels that were as big as glowing coals. What type of jewels were they?

Answer: Rubies

Once again, Gringotts has something in common with the House of Gryffindor. At Hogwarts, giant hourglasses that keep track of each house's points are filled with jewels; rubies for Gryffindor, sapphires for Ravenclaw, and emeralds for Slytherin. As far as I know, JK Rowling has never stated what sort of jewels are in Hufflepuff's hourglass, though I thought Citrine would be a good guess!
4. True or False: In "Sorcerer's Stone", when asked by Harry what the difference is between stalagmites and stalactites, Hagrid's answer is: "A stalactite grows down from the ceiling. A stalagmite grows up from the floor."

Answer: False

Hagrid actually replies, "Stalagmite's got an 'm' in it!" Wow, brilliant deduction there Hagrid!
5. When fitting Harry for his Hogwarts robes in "Sorcerer's Stone", what color robes was Madam Malkin of Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions wearing?

Answer: Mauve

Harry makes a second trip to Madam Malkin's in "Half Blood Prince" where he once again runs into Malfoy. Harry, Ron, and Hermione have quite the encounter with Draco and his very rude mother, Narcissa.
6. At which store did Hagrid buy Harry's owl, Hedwig? (------- Owl Emporium)

Answer: Eeylops

At Eeylops Owl Emporium, Hagrid got him an owl for his birthday because he didn't think Harry had been given many presents by the Dursleys. He chose an owl because toads had gone out of fashion years ago, and cats made him sneeze! Besides which, owls are "dead useful"!
7. When buying his wand at Ollivander's, what wood did Mr. Ollivander say Harry's mother's wand had been made of?

Answer: Willow

"Ten and a quarter inches long, swishy, made of willow. Nice wand for charm work." James Potter's wand was mahogany, Voldemort's was yew, and Harry's is holly.
8. True or False: In "Chamber of Secrets", while in Borgin and Burke's, Lucius Malfoy informs Mr. Burke that he is there, not to buy, but to sell.

Answer: False

Though he is there selling items and not buying, Lucius Malfoy speaks to Burke's partner, Mr. Borgin.
9. Upon exiting Borgin and Burkes in "Chamber of Secrets", Harry is approached by a woman carrying a tray of what?

Answer: Fingernails

Luckily for Harry, Hagrid happens to be in Knockturn Alley looking for Flesh-Eating Slug Repellent and is able to save him from the old witch. A tray of whole human fingernails held by a witch with mossy teeth...no wonder decent people avoid Knockturn Alley!
10. In "Chamber of Secrets", Harry meets back up with the Weasleys, and also Hermione, to do some shopping in Diagon Alley. Where does Mrs. Weasley tell everyone to meet back at?

Answer: Flourish and Blotts

Mrs. Weasley and Ginny headed off to buy robes (though not at Madam Malkin's), Mr. Weasley went to the Leaky Cauldron with the Grangers, and Fred and George met up with Lee Jordan at Gambol and Japes'. I bet Gambol and Japes is getting quite the competition now that Fred and George have opened Weasley's Wizard Wheezes on the same street!
11. In "Chamber of Secrets", Ron, Hermione, and Harry happen upon Percy in a junk shop. Percy is reading a book whose back cover reads, "A study of Hogwarts prefects and their later careers." The name of this book is "Prefects Who.." did what?

Answer: Gained Power

What a typical Percy book. By "Order of the Phoenix", Percy has become Junior Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic. I imagine that if the author of "Prefects Who Gained Power" writes a second book of the same subject, Percy would surely be included!
12. In "Prisoner of Azkaban", Harry meets Cornelius Fudge, Minister of Magic, at the Leaky Cauldron when getting off the Knight Bus. Fudge takes him inside and sits him down to have a "chat" with him about blowing up his aunt Marge. Fudge says that everything has been repaired and that the Dursleys are prepared to take him back next summer on what condition?

Answer: That he spend the Christmas and Easter holidays at Hogwarts

Fortunately for Harry, he always spends the Christmas and Easter holidays at Hogwarts! According to Dumbledore, as long as Harry goes to the Dursley's every summer and is still able to call that "home", his mothers' family's blood will continue to protect him. I think being able to stay at Hogwarts over Christmas may be the best present Harry gets all year!
13. According to "Prisoner of Azkaban", what brick would you have to tap to access the archway into Diagon Alley?

Answer: Third brick from the left above the trash bin

This one's kind of tricky, because in "Sorcerer's Stone" Hagrid is mentioned counting bricks and saying "Three up...two across...". However, either way, it leads you into Diagon Alley, which is invisible to Muggle eyes.
14. In "Prisoner of Azkaban", Harry spends quite a bit of time sitting under the brightly colored umbrellas at the cafes in Diagon Alley. While there, he overhears a man talking about Lunascopes. What kind of chart would you not have need of if you had a Lunascope?

Answer: Moon Charts

Harry thinks that if he could get his hands on a Lunascope, he'd never have to take another Astronomy lesson.
15. In "Prisoner of Azkaban", Harry spends time every day gazing longingly at his dream broom, the Firebolt. The first day he ever saw it, Harry overheard the owner of Quality Quidditch Supplies telling everyone that which National Quidditch team had just placed an order for seven of them?

Answer: Irish International Side

While watching the Quidditch World Cup in "Goblet of Fire", Harry sees that the Irish team is in fact riding these spectacular brooms.
