Rowena Ravenclaw was one of the four original founders. She believed that the school should only accept the brightest young witches and wizards, which is why Ravenclaw is known for having the smartest students.

Many would think that the raven would be the symbol of Ravenclaw, but they would be mistaken. It is in fact, the eagle. In "The Order of the Phoenix", Luna Lovegood wore a hat with a living eagle on top of it to support her house at the Quidditch match against Gryffindor.

Zacharias Smith was in Ginny Weasley's year, like Luna Lovegood, but was instead in Hufflepuff House. Other noted Ravenclaws were Professor Flitwick and Mr. Ollivander, the wand-maker.

Unlike the other houses, students of Ravenclaw must answer a question instead of give a password to enter the common room. Harry and Luna were asked, "Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?" to which Luna answered, "A circle has no beginning." Later, Professor McGonagall was asked where Vanished objects go, and she replied "into Non-Being, which is to say, everything."

Roger Davies was the Captain of the Ravenclaw Quidditch team and played Chaser. He appeared in "Prisoner of Azkaban", "Goblet of Fire" (in which he took Fleur Delacourt to the Yule Ball), and "The Order of the Phoenix". Another prominent member of their squad was Cho Chang, who played Seeker. Roger asked her out after Cedric Diggory's death, but she was interested in Harry at the time.
