Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", Voldemort took over this gullible wizard. He made him a temporary horcrux and used him in a robbery in an attempt to steal the Sorcerer's Stone. Harry and Dumbledore killed him when he tried to steal the Sorcerer's Stone from Harry. Who is this gullible professor who unfortunately was made a servant of Voldemort and one of his horcruxes?

Answer: Quirinus Quirrell

JK would not reveal the identity of the person helping Voldemort until the final chapter of "Sorcerer's Stone"; everyone thought that Harry's most hated teacher Severus Snape was the one with Voldemort in the back of his mind when in reality it was Quirrell. JK Rowling later revealed that Voldemort used Quirrell as a temporary horcrux. For years he was the Muggle Studies teacher at Hogwarts, and upon Professor Marriforth's retirement he became the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.

He wanted to end his Hogwarts career in a blaze of glory by finding Voldemort and defeating him. Turns out his plan did not work. Quirrell discovered where Voldemort was hiding in Albania and Voldemort possessed him. Voldemort then ordered his new servant to break into Gringotts and steal the Sorcerer's Stone. Fortunately for Quirrell he was too late; Hagrid and Harry already emptied the vault an hour before he went to the bank.

He was the one who let the troll into Hogwarts that Harry, Ron, and Hermione defeated; he was the one who placed a curse on Harry's broom during his first match; he was the one that Snape was talking to in the forest after Snape got attacked by Fluffy; and he was the one who was drinking Unicorn Blood the night that Hagrid, Harry, Hermione, Malfoy, Neville, and the centaurs found him in the forest. Fortunately, his rise to glory ended in his death.

He failed to kill Harry and he did not get the Sorcerer's Stone. Harry used the ancient magic to turn Quirrell to dust and Dumbledore arrived in time to banish Voldemort back to Albania. 1 down, 7 to go.
2. This horcrux is the most notorious of all of them. Harry almost lost his wife Ginny to it. Voldemort intended to use this horcrux as a weapon, and gave it to Lucius Malfoy. What is this extremely notorious horcrux that started the events of "Chamber of Secrets"?

Answer: The Diary of Tom Riddle

No one would think that a simple diary can cause a lot of damage and kill the girl you love, but it almost did. The Diary Horcrux is the most notorious of all of them.
The day that Harry went with the Weasleys to Flourish and Blotts to buy his books and get Lockhart's autograph, Lucius Malfoy got into a fight with Arthur and used the commotion as a diversion to slip the diary into Ginny's cauldron. Lucius Malfoy attempted to kill three birds with one stone by planting the diary on Ginny which involved: framing Arthur, getting rid of an extremely dangerous dark object, and carry out Voldemort's master plan to get Horwarts shut down and kill every Muggle Born in Wizard World.
Writing in the diary drained Ginny's soul to the point that Voldemort himself emerged from the diary and set loose the Basilisk on the students of Hogwarts. The plan then backfired. Before Voldemort could finish draining Ginny's life force, Harry and Fawkes killed the Basilisk and used the fangs to destroy the diary for good. With the diary's destruction, Harry just destroyed his second horcrux and saved the love of his life, Ginny Weasley. 2 down, 6 to go.
3. This horcrux was worn the day of Voldemort's first murder after he created the diary. It was supposed to be one of the "Deathly Hallows", but instead of opening the gates to the afterlife as it was designed to do, Voldemort placed a curse on it which would kill the victim if they tried to wear it. What is this deathly hallow that would be turned into a horcrux?

Answer: Marvolo Gaunt's Ring

The ring was supposed to be used to summon a person's loved one back from the dead so they can talk to them in limbo. Dumbledore tried to use the ring to bring back his dead sister, but instead of seeing his sister he was attacked by a curse that slowly started to take his life. If it was not for the timely action of Severus Snape and the Sword of Gryffindor, Voldemort would have killed Dumbledore the moment he wore the ring. Using the Sword of Gryffindor, Severus Snape and Dumbledore destroyed the ring and removed the Resurrection Stone from its depths, giving it to Harry inside the Snitch upon Dumbledore's death. 3 down, 5 to go and the second of the "Deathly Hallows" has been acquired by Harry.
4. This horcrux is also notorious but not as much as the Diary. Between "Order of the Phoenix" and "Deathly Hallows" it has changed hands at least four times. Harry actually had it in his hands the day he cleaned the drawing room, it went to Mundungus who passed it on to Umbirdge while Harry was at school. She wore it from "Order of the Phoenix" all the way to "Deathly Hallows" and it made her extremely evil; then Ron got hold of it and it was eventually destroyed. What is this horcrux that is known to make evil people more evil, and was also the most difficult one to find?

Answer: The Locket

The Locket does have a tendency to change hands. Four times between "Order of the Phoenix" and "Deathly Hallows" it has changed hands.
First Harry Potter had it; he did not know what it was and he tossed it into the trash can. Kreacher and Mundungus were dumpster diving and Mundungus stole it. During the time that Harry was at Hogwarts, and shortly before Sirius Black was killed, Mundungus gave it to Dolores Umbridge and she wore it all the time during the events of "Order of the Phoenix".
When Harry went looking for the locket finally discerning the note that was inside the fake, he realized that he had the horcrux all along and he accidentally tossed it into the trash. Realizing his mistake Harry called Kreacher back to Grimmold Place to tell him where it was. Kreacher told Harry that Mundungus stole it and Harry sent him to catch Mundungus for questioning. After Harry interrogated Mundungus the little scumbag finally told Harry that he had given it to Dolores Umbridge. Harry then went to the Ministry in disguise and he seized the locket before Ron got his hands on it.
The Locket turned Ron against his friends and forced him to abandon them. Seeing that this was going to happen Dumbledore infused the deluminator with a spell to improve Ron's apparition abilities upon his friends saying his name. Ron returned to the camp and helped Harry destroy the horcrux, but only after the horcrux tried to brainwash Ron with its lies and also a disturbing intimate scene that Ron was forced to look at before he destroyed it. 4 down, 4 to go.
5. Harry saw this horcrux inside the pensieve and did not know its hiding place until Bellatrix let slip where it was. Breaking into Gringotts, he managed to retrieve it but lost the Sword of Gryffindor in the process. Arriving at Hogwarts, this horcrux was finally destroyed using leftover Basilisk fangs from "Chamber of Secrets". What is this horcrux?

Answer: Hufflepuff's Cup

The Cup would be the hardest to find until Bellatrix let slip where it was. While she was interrogating Hermione in "The Deathly Hallows", she told Harry that the horcrux was inside her vault.
After escaping from Death Eater Headquarters at Malfoy Manor (and losing Dobby in the process), Harry made plans to commit a robbery at Gringotts. Harry made a deal with Griphook the Goblin to break into the vault and steal the cup. Griphook, the caretaker of Harry's vault, would later betray him and stole the sword before locking Harry and his companions in the vault and summoning Voldemort. But since the sword does not belong to goblins it returned to the Sorting Hat where it belongs.
Harry, Ginny, Luna, and Ron and Hermione split up, with Ron and Hermione headed towards the Chamber of Secrets to retrieve the Basilisk fangs, Ginny to give orders to Dumbledore's Army who is getting ready to fight, and Harry and Luna went to Ravenclaw Tower to find out what the Diadem looks like. In the "Chamber of Secrets", Ron and Hermione had retrieved the Basilisk fangs, which they used to destroyed the Cup. 5 down, 3 left.
6. This horcrux was unknown until Luna told Harry what it was in "The Deathly Hallows". Going to Ravenclaw Tower, Harry discovered that he actually had this horcrux with him the day he hid his book in "Half Blood Prince". What is this unknown horcrux?

Answer: Ravenclaw's Diadem

The Diadem was lost for centuries. Luna, and also the silent Grey Lady, helped Harry refresh his memory of where it was. Realizing that he had it with him back in "Half Blood Prince" Harry returned to the Room of Requirement and got into a duel with his rival Draco Malfoy. Malfoy brought Crabbe and Goyle with him and they had orders to stop Harry from retrieving the Diadem. Crabbe tried to trap them in the Room of Requirement by releasing cursed fire into the room, but the spell literally backfired and Crabbe and the Diadem got incinerated. 6 down, only 2 left.
7. Did Harry know where the final horcrux was?

Answer: Yes

In "Deathly Hallows", Harry realized that his scar was the final horcrux after he retrieved the memories of Severus Snape, and used the Pensieve get the information Snape was hiding from him for 16 years. Voldemort then destroyed it himself when he used a killing curse on Harry. But since the Deathly Hallows were reunited, Harry came back to life and banished Voldemort for good.
8. Using familiars as a horcrux is unadvised, but that is what happened. This snake who is Voldemort's familiar was created the day that he killed Bertha Jorkins in Albania. She is always at Voldemort's side.

Answer: Nagini

Although its said in "Secrets of the Darkest Art" that you can use familiars to create a horcrux, it is not advised. Voldemort created Nagini the day he killed Bertha Jorkins. She never left his side, and most of the time she did Voldemort's dirty work. Neville managed to decapitate her before Harry went to his final dual. With all the horcruxes destroyed, Harry used the "Deathly Hallows" to banish Voldemort; with that, Harry's foe was finally defeated.
9. These illegal books are where Voldemort got the spells to create the horcruxes. Name the two books that Voldemort used in the creation of horcruxes.

Answer: "Secrets of the Darkest Art" and "Magick Moste Evile"

These two books are full of dark magic. While "Magick Moste Evile" discusses horcruxes, it only mentioned them briefly; "Secrets of the Darkest Art" has all the spells to make one. Before he died Dumbledore had "Secrets of the Darkest Art" taken off the shelf to prevent students from making one, but "Magick Moste Evile" was left in the restricted section, and a spell was placed on it to make it scream if an underage witch or wizard attempted to take it off the shelf.

When Harry, Ron, and Hermione went on the run in "Deathly Hallows", Hermione checked these two books out of the library; in "Cursed Child" they are used as a defense mechanism in the book case in her office at the Ministry of Magic.
10. True or False According to "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" Once a Horcrux is destroyed it will be trapped in Limbo forever.

Answer: True

When the horcrux inside Harry's scar was destroyed Harry took it with him into Limbo. The horcrux was left cowering underneath a bench naked and beyond help. This is the fate of all horcruxes if somebody attempts to make one.
