Raggedy Ann was a ragdoll first made in 1915. She was a character taken from a children's book written by Johnny Gruelle for his young daughter, Marcella. With bright red hair and button eyes, Raggedy Ann and her brother Andy have entertained children for over a hundred years with their adventures.

The View-Master was a hand-held toy for viewing reels containing images. The first reels showed scenic places like the Grand Canyon, but later reels had Disney pictures such as "Snow White" or "Cinderella".

Lego was first made in 1949 in a factory in Denmark. It became so popular that more factories were built elsewhere in the world to make all the different pieces. Children could build houses and cars, bridges and fire engines. Nowadays, you can build your favourite characters from "Star Wars", "Harry Potter" and "Batman".

Barbie was introduced in 1959 and became a very popular toy for young girls. They could dress Barbie in fashionable clothes, brush her hair, and use their imagination to become the doll in their own mind's eye. Barbie had a lot of friends and family, including Ken, Skipper, Tutti and Todd.

Etch-a-Sketch was invented by a Frenchman called Andre Cassagnes. Inside the red frame is a powder made from aluminum, and when the knobs were turned, a stylus would leave a line in the powder. Children could draw cars, houses and even their pet cats or dogs.

Answer: Rubik

A Hungarian man called Erno Rubik invented Rubik's Cube in 1974. The puzzle has six faces with nine different squares blocks on each side. They were coloured white, red, blue, orange green and yellow. The aim of the puzzle was to match all the small blocks so that each side had the same colour.

Answer: My Little Pony

My Little Pony was a selection of pretty ponies with long manes in all sorts of rainbow colours. They were followed by Pegasus Ponies with wings, and Unicorn Ponies with a spiral horn. Some children of the 1980s were attracted to the new hand held computer games, such as Gameboy, whereas others preferred to let their imagination run riot with a magical toy pony.

The 1990s saw a massive rise in computer games and children were amazed with the introduction of robotic toys. Furby couldn't talk English, German, Spanish or French, but could talk special Furbish talk, bat its eyelids and flap its ears!

Wii is a home video game console which all the family can use. It was developed in 2006 by a company called Nintendo. There are several games you can play including Sports, Super Mario Bros and Just Dance. The nunchuk is an add on controller which allows a player to use both hands instead of one.
