RMS Titanic was on its maiden (first) voyage when it struck the iceberg which caused it to sink with the loss of over 1,500 people. There was insufficient space in the lifeboats to save all the passengers.

HMS Victory was the flagship of Admiral Lord Nelson who was killed at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
RMS Lusitania was another passenger liner which was sunk by a German submarine in World War I. The sinking of the Lusitania was thought to have contributed to the entry into World War I by the United States of America since there were a number of American citizens on board when it was sunk.

Although the Great Fire of London was a disaster which destroyed 13,000 homes and 89 churches with the loss of a number of lives there were some eventual benefits.
