Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which pop group had a hit in the 1960's with the song "Sugar Magnolia"?

Answer: The Grateful Dead

After Jerry Garcia's death on August 9th 1995, the rest of the band, who still perform gigs today, renamed themselves as "The Others" as they did not feel it right to keep their original name without their front-runner.
2. In which continent would you find the Atacama desert?

Answer: South America

Located high in a remote area of Chile, it runs from the snow-capped Andes right across to the Pacific Ocean. The only precipitation comes in the form of fog and the barren, salted landscape supports almost no vegetation at all.
3. In which century was the Magna Carta signed?

Answer: 13th

This decree, signed in England in 1215, was the forerunner to all modern constitutions, which guaranteed basic human rights.
4. In which film would you hear the name Keyser Soze?

Answer: The Usual Suspects

"Who is Keyser Soze?" was the famous phrase. If you haven't seen this violent classic then I won't spoil it for you by telling you who he is!
5. Which company was the first commercial manufacturers of the airplane?

Answer: Shorts

Although the Wright Brothers invented the airplane, they were not manufacturers (there was no such thing as "Wright Brothers International"), and turned to the British Company Shorts to mass produce the first planes.
6. Which war of the 20th Century was known as the "Forgotten War"?

Answer: The Korean War

Technically, North Korea and South Korea are still at war. Although they signed an Armistice, the never drafted an official peace deal.
7. Which German flying ace of the First World War was known as the "Red Baron"?

Answer: Manfred von Richthofen

Manfred von Richthofen was arguably the greatest pilot of all time. Flying in his scarlet Fokker triplane, he had over 80 confirmed kills and also set up the feared German Flying Circus. He was reportedly shot down by a Canadian by the name of Brown, although German forces claimed his death was caused when he accidentally shot off his own propeller with a faulty machine gun.

The Allied forces dropped wreaths over German airbases as a sign of respect.
8. The lemur is a primate native to which country?

Answer: Madagascar

An endearing creature that is known for being curious and bold around humans. Unfortunately, some species are being threatened from inbreeding caused by a reduced gene pool.
9. Grozny is the capital of which breakaway republic state?

Answer: Chechnya

Chechen militants have been fighting for independence from Russia for some time now, but the Russian government has always taken a hard stance, threatening to invade the state if violence continues.
10. Which British Prime Minister once claimed that single mothers were the bane of our society?

Answer: John Major

John Major ran a campaign in the early to mid-nineties known as the "back to basics" campaign. It put emphasis on the family unit and the need for monogamy. Unfortunately for him, this plan backfired: it came out later that he was having an affair with Edwina Currie the whole time!
