Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1948, Henry Walker started selling Walker's crisps. Which trade did he give up to concentrate on this new business?

Answer: Butcher

Walker was well known for his meat pies and turned to frying potato slices when post war rationing of meat made butchery difficult. When meat rationing ended in 1954, he continued with crisp manufacturing and introduced cheese and onion flavour the same year.

In 1989, Walkers were bought by PepsiCo and their plant in Leicester is the largest crisp making facility in the world, producing an astounding 11 million bags a day.
2. One of English football's greatest centre backs, Des Walker, made over 300 appearances for both Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday, but with which Italian team did he spend the 1992-93 season?

Answer: Sampdoria

Walker was given his debut at Forest, under the management of Brian Clough, when aged just 18 and quickly developed into an outstanding player. He became the quickest ever recipient of 50 England caps in 1992, having played in 50 of the 53 international games since his England debut.

In a total of 658 games, split between Forest, Sampdoria and Wednesday, he scored just one goal, but prevented the opposition from scoring many times. As the terrace chant used to go, "You'll never beat Des Walker."
3. Walsall native Dave Walker was briefly a member of which rock group, his only recording with them being 1973s "Penguin" album?

Answer: Fleetwood Mac

Walker replaced Danny Kirwan as Fleetwood Mac's vocalist in 1972 but ultimately only sang lead vocals on two tracks on the "Penguin" album and left following the tour to support the album. Bizarrely, Walker was also a very brief member of Black Sabbath for about four months, when in 1977 Ozzy Osbourne left the band. Walker was hired as Ozzy's replacement, wrote a few songs with the band, none of which were ever recorded, and made a TV appearance with them before Ozzy decided to rejoin in early 1978.

When Ozzy left again later that same year, Ronnie James Dio replaced him.
4. Which excitable Formula One commentator gave us commentary gold such as, "There's nothing wrong with his car except that it's on fire" and "The lead car is absolutely unique, except for the one behind it which is identical."?

Answer: Murray Walker

Murray Walker is loved the world over, not just for his commentary gaffes but for his encyclopedic knowledge of motor sport and his passion for the sport too. Other moments where his mouth worked faster than his brain included, "Unless I am very much mistaken.. I AM very much mistaken!", "It's lap 26 of 58, which unless I'm very much mistaken is half way", and the all time classic, "Excuse me while I interrupt myself."
5. Founded in Aberlour by Joseph Walker in 1989, Walker's are a multiple winner of the Queen's Award for Export. For which Scottish treat are they world renowned?

Answer: Shortbread

Walkers is still a family owned company, still manufacture their shortbread according to an old family recipe from Joseph Walker's ancestors and are still headquartered in Aberlour although they do now have a large plant in Elgin and a North American headquarters in New York. Exporting to over 90 countries, the company is one of Scotland's biggest food exporters,
6. In 1976, BBC Radio 1 DJ Johnnie Walker, famously described which band, at the height of their popularity, as "musical garbage"?

Answer: Bay City Rollers

This outburst, with which many music fans agreed, led to Walker leaving Radio 1 and relocating to USA where he worked on several radio stations, before returning to UK airwaves in 1982 and to Radio 1 in 1987. He left the station again in 1988 and after working at BBC GLR, BBC Radio 5 and another return to Radio 1, settled down at BBC Radio 2 in 1998 presenting the "Drivetime" show for the next five years, making many a listener laugh at his banter with "Sally Traffic", before an enforced absence for a year to undergo treatment for cancer.
7. Actor Paul Walker will always be remembered for his role in the "Fast and Furious" franchise but do you remember the name of his character in the movies?

Answer: Brian O'Conner

Walker starred in seven movies in the franchise, the final one being released posthumously after he died in 2013 when the driver of the Porsche in which he was a passenger lost control, causing the car to collide with a lamp post and two trees before bursting into flames.
8. Thomas Walker was a British slave trader in the 18th century, great-great-great grandfather to which American president?

Answer: George H.W. Bush

Yep Bush. The H.W. as middle initials, and the "W" in son George W. Bush's name should have given it away, as in both cases it stands for Walker. Thomas Walker was involved in at least eleven slaving voyages to West Africa between 1784 and 1792, either as captain, master, or investor and did most of his trading at Bunce Island in the Sierra Leone River.
9. Of the following, what would one normally do with a Johnnie Walker Red?

Answer: Drink it. It's a Scotch whisky

The Johnnie Walker whisky company was started in the early 19th century by John Walker in Kilmarnock. The company has grown to such an extent that Johnnie Walker Red Label has been the biggest selling blended Scotch in world since 1945. The company also makes Black Label (aged 12 years), Green Label (15 year old blended malt) and Blue Label, a premium blend which is one of the most expensive blended Scotch Whiskies on the market.
10. Linking this quiz together nicely, which song by The Walker Brothers was used by AMC in the promotional videos prior to season one of "The Walking Dead"?

Answer: The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine (Anymore)

The Walker Brothers were a trio made up of Scott Engel, John Maus and Gary Leeds. "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine (Anymore)" from 1966 was their biggest hit, reaching the top ten in many countries and hitting number one in UK. "The Walking Dead" first hit our screens in 2010 and is based on the graphic novels by Robert Kirkman.
