Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the Griswold family's final destination in the National Lampoon movie, "Vacation"?

Answer: a theme park

Who could forget Wally World? John Candy was great as the hapless security guard.
2. According to its official State Nickname, which "State" is Kentucky?

Answer: Bluegrass

Missouri is the Show Me State, Tennessee is the Volunteer State, and Illinois is the Prairie State.
3. Only one of the following cereals is made by Kellogg's. Which is it?

Answer: Apple Jacks

The other cereals are made by General Mills. Apple Jacks are similar to Cheerios, but sweeter of course. They contain no apples; but then again, Grape Nuts have neither grapes nor nuts. Discuss.
4. According to the Old Testament (Book of Genesis), what did Joseph's father give him that made his brothers so jealous?

Answer: a coat of many colors

Joseph's brothers later sold him into slavery in Egypt. Talk about sibling rivalry. This story was made into a Broadway musical. Incidentally, the fatted calf was from the "Prodigal Son" Bible story.
5. In geology, what is the process by which a rock or crystallized substance splits along definite planes?

Answer: cleavage

Diamond cutters and miners know all about cleavage. It is also one of the properties that account for the Earth's continental drift.
6. What product was still sold under the name of the late Eva Gabor, nearly ten years after her death?

Answer: wigs

At one time, if you turned to the back of any tabloid, you were sure to find an ad for Eva Gabor Wigs. Even though Eva Gabor died in 1995, the wigs are still on the market. They are also advertised in hospitals for cancer patients who have lost hair to chemotherapy.
7. On the TV show "Alice", which was the name of the blonde server played by Celia Weston, the last to join the cast?

Answer: Jolene

Jolene replaced Belle, who replaced Flo. Celia Weston has gone on to character roles in the movies "Flirting with Disaster", "The Talented Mr. Ripley", and "Far From Heaven". All three characters she played were wealthy. Guess she invested those tips wisely.
8. In the early sixteenth century, religious reformer Martin Luther wrote a book of theses, challenging the Catholic Church on its practice of granting Indulgences (taking money in exchange for forgiveness of sins). According to the title, how many Theses were there?

Answer: Ninety-Five

That was the beginning of the Reformation. Protestant religions got their name from their "Protest"ing of Catholic Church practices. The Lutheran church was the first. The 2003 Joseph Fiennes movie, "Luther", is about the writing of, and fallout from, The Ninety-Five Theses.
9. Singer/songwriter Aimee Mann contributed all the songs to the soundtrack of which movie?

Answer: Magnolia

Mann was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song. However, the award went to Phil Collins for his 'Tarzan' song, "You'll Be in My Heart".
10. Well, here we are. Take a look at your answers, and the name of a certain entertainer should pop into your head, and this one's done it all: hit music, film, television, business ventures. Who is it?

Answer: Dolly Parton

Born in poverty in 1946, Dolly first recorded a song at age 11. She now has her own THEME PARK (Dollywood), and is known for her big blond WIGS, among other things. Her films include "9 to 5" (sounds like NINETY-FIVE) and "Steel MAGNOLIAs". She has written songs called "COAT OF MANY COLORS", "JOLENE", and "APPLEJACK", although her last few (Grammy winning) albums have been BLUEGRASS. Writer Fran Leibowitz once said of Dolly, "She would have been a star in any era." 'Nuff said. Thanks for playing!
