Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these is the only UNTRUE description of stunning "Gone With the Wind" star Vivien Leigh? (Hint: Figure it out by using process of elimination.)

Answer: Born in England

Vivien was born in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India in 1913. She moved to England at age 6. Vivien won Oscars for "Gone With the Wind" and "A Streetcar Named Desire". She divorced Laurence Olivier after twenty years of marriage. She died of tuberculosis in 1967, two years after completing her final film, "Ship of Fools".
2. Which of the following is the more common term for "myocardial infarction"?

Answer: Heart Attack

Myocardial infarction is caused by a blood clot obstructing a coronary artery that supplies blood to the heart muscle, resulting in the death of heart muscle tissue. Heart failure is the #1 cause of death in the United States.
3. Which of these fragrances was created by Karl Lagerfeld in 1975?

Answer: Chloe

The others are fragrances by well known creators. So again, process of elimination helps. Obsession is by Calvin Klein. Giorgio is from Giorgio of Beverly Hills. Passion is by Elizabeth Taylor. Chloe is a romantic fragrance for women with the scent of jasmine and honeysuckle.
4. The Canadian entertainer Doug Henning performed to crowds in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, and on Broadway. He snared no less than Gene Kelly and Bill Cosby for his first TV special in 1975. What was his specialty?

Answer: Magic

Henning was the first magician to receive a Canada Council Grant, funding usually given to painters, dancers, and musicians. He retired from magic in 1987 to devote his life to Transcendental Meditation in 1987, but was planning a comeback in 1999 when he was stricken with liver cancer. He died at age 52 in February of 2000.
5. According to a long-running series of television commercials, what does DAWN "take out of your way"?

Answer: Grease

The most well known of these commercials featured two people who think they're finished washing dishes. Then one finds a last greasy glass baking pan completely soiled. The other one doesn't think it'll come clean after all those other dishes. But the first person, knowing they've used Dawn, dips it in, and Voila! All clean! "Dawn takes GREASE out of your way!"
6. What type of "Graffiti" was featured in the title of a 1975 Led Zeppelin album?

Answer: Physical

"Physical Graffiti" was released as a two record set, and is considered a masterpiece by Zeppelin fans, even though it does not contain their most well known songs. The original LP cover featured a building with sixteen windows you could actually open, each one with a letter of the title. Too bad that's not on the CD. If you like "Stairway to Heaven", check out "Kashmir" on this double album.
7. Complete the title of this 1994 Steve Martin movie: "A Simple ________"

Answer: Twist of Fate

Martin plays a miserable man whose life changes when he adopts a girl whose mother dies outside his house. This bittersweet film was a change of pace for Martin at the time, but he has only grown more versatile since then. (He also adapted the screenplay.) There was also a suspensful drama called "A Simple Plan", but Steve Martin wasn't in it, and it was filmed in 1998.
8. Canberra is the capital of which country?

Answer: Australia

Okay, for Australians, this was an easy question. But in 2000, an American man lost early on the game show "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire" because he "asked the audience" to help him out, and they overwhelmingly picked Sydney as Australia's capital. So it's safe to assume the rest of the world needs some brushing up.
9. Which of these lovely places is mentioned in the first line of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's lyrical poem, "Kubla Khan"?

Answer: Xanadu

The first two lines are:
'In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure dome decree'
In 1798, many of Coleridge's contemporaries dismissed his poem as nonsense, yet it has since become the subject of book length dissertations and scholarly analysis for over two hundred years. It's also where Frankie Goes to Hollywood got the title for their classic 1980s album, "Welcome to the Pleasuredome".
10. I'm sure you honestly love this quiz, but you've come to the last question. If you look over your answers, a certain entertainer should pop into your head. This person should be especially familiar to children of the 'eighties, but is still well known today for music, movies, and social activism (in that order). Who is it?

Answer: Olivia Newton-John

Olivia Newton-John was BORN IN ENGLAND September 26, 1948. She moved to AUSTRALIA with her parents as a child, and still considers it home even though she also lives in California. She went back to the UK to start a singing career in the 1960s, and her international success brought her to America in the 1970s. In 1977, she was discovered for her American film debut, the megahit GREASE, and followed that up with the 1980 musical XANADU, which featured her second biggest hit song MAGIC. Her next album, PHYSICAL, had a title song which became the biggest hit single of the 1980s. Among her many other hits are HEART ATTACK, TWIST OF FATE (from her second movie with John Travolta, "Two of a Kind") and I HONESTLY LOVE You (the clue in Question 10). In 1986, Olivia gave birth to a daughter, CHLOE Rose, who acted with her in a 2001 movie for Showtime called "The Wilde Girls".

Olivia still records and performs, and is still hugely popular in Australia. She is an advocate for early detection of breast cancer, and for the environment. Her Koala Blue stores went bankrupt in the early 1990s, but she has since resurrected the KB name; it is now a wine company. So it doesn't look like Olivia will be slowing down any time soon. Thanks for playing!
