Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Diana's boyfriend

Answer: Fayed

On August 31, 1997, Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed died in a car crash after returning from a holiday in the Riviera. Dodi was the son of Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed. Chauffeur Henri Paul was driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs trying to escape paparazzi. Neither Diana nor Dodi were wearing seat belts.

Although known as a playboy, Fayed was a film producer of "Chariots of Fire" (1981), "FX" (1986), and "Scarlet Letter" (1995).
2. US VP candidate

Answer: Ferraro

Geraldine Anne Ferraro was an American attorney and Democratic Party politician who served in the United States House of Representatives. In 1984, she was the first female vice presidential candidate representing a major American political party as well as being the first person of Italian descent to have that role.

The Mondale/Ferraro ticket was overwhelmed by the Reagan/Bush duo. Many questions arose about her husband's business dealings during the campaign.
3. The Queen of Soul

Answer: Franklin

Gospel music has been the training ground for many of your most successful entertainers. Aretha Franklin toured as a lead gospel singer at fourteen. Such songs as "Respect", "A Natural Woman", "Spanish Harlem" and "Think" earned her the "Queen of Soul" title. Franklin recorded 112 charted singles on Billboard, 77 Hot 100 entries, 17 top ten pop singles, 100 R&B entries, and 21 R&B singles.
4. "Giant"

Answer: Ferber

Edna Ferber's novels were not only readable but were translated into other media. For instance, her 1926 novel "Show Boat" became a Broadway musical in 1927. Since that time there have been 16 revivals and two motion picture adaptations. She won the Pulitzer Prize for "So Big" (1924). "Cimarron" (1929) was made into a film that won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and "Giant" (1952) became a 1956 film that was James Dean's last.
5. Columbo

Answer: Falk

Peter Falk was an American actor who played Lieutenant Columbo in the television series "Columbo" (1968-2003). This role earned him four Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award (1973). Falk was twice nominated for an Academy Award, for Best Supporting Actor for "Murder, Inc." (1960) and "Pocketful of Miracles" (1961).
6. Nation of Islam

Answer: Farrakhan

Here we will have Louis Farrakhan speak for himself.

"The die is set and Malcolm will not escape for the foolish talk he spoke against his benefactor, such a man, is worthy of death, and it would have been so, were it not for Muhammad's confidence that God would give him the victory over the enemies."

"Blacks are superior to whites...whites were created 6,600 years ago as a "race of devils" by an evil black scientist named Yakub...white people deserve to die."

"The Jews don't like Farrakhan, so they call me Hitler. Well, that's a good name. Hitler was a very great man. He wasn't a great man for me as a black person, but he was a great German. Now, I'm not proud of Hitler's evils against Jewish people, but that's a matter of record. He raised Germany up from nothing. Well, in a sense you could say there's a similarity in that we are raising our people up from nothing".
7. Van down by the river

Answer: Farley

Chris Farley grew up in Madison, Wisconsin and was a graduate of Marquette University. He chose comedy as a career and eventually joined "Second City" in Chicago until offered a part on "Saturday Night Live". There he created his best remembered character Matt Foley, an over-the-top motivational speaker who
reminded other characters that he "lived in a van, down by the river."

He then embarked on a film career, generally as the funny naïve fat guy. At the time of his death he had recorded about 80% of the dialogue for "Shrek", a part inherited by Mike Myers.

At the time of his death at 33, he was near 300 pounds and addicted to cocaine and morphine complicated by other health issues.
8. 336 interceptions

Answer: Favre

At the time of his retirement Brett Favre held these records in the National Football League: most pass completions 6,300, pass attempts 10,169, pass interceptions 336, starts 298. Of course, records can be broken but it does dramatize an accomplished career. If the number of interceptions seem high, Favre was known as a 'gunslinger' who took chances late in a game when his team was behind.
9. Stooge

Answer: Fine

Larry Fine was the stage name of Louis Feinberg. Larry was the stooge with the bushy hair while Curly was bald and Moe had a pageboy. It was not well known but Fine, in addition to acting, was both a violinist and a boxer. Until his stroke, he and Moe Howard were in every Three Stooges film.

The loss of Curly Howard at a young age brought brother Shemp Howard who was a more than adequate replacement; his death led to a succession of Curly look-a-likes but none with the comic charm.
10. Chess

Answer: Fischer

Bobby Fischer is regarded by many in the field of competition chess as the greatest chess player of all time. He learned to play chess at age six and by the time he was 15 he was considered world class.

In 1972 he met Boris Spassky of Russia for the world championship in Reykjavík, Iceland. Not before or since has a chess match had that much global interest as this match, as it was regarded as a microcosm of the cold war, perhaps only comparable to the US ice hockey win over Russia at the 1980 Winter Olympics.

Late in life Fischer's behavior became bizarre. He found a refuge in Iceland, virtually the only country that would grant him asylum, where he died in 2008.
11. Long Island Lolita

Answer: Fisher

Amy Elizabeth Fisher became known as "the Long Island Lolita" when at 17, she shot and severely wounded Mary Jo Buttafuoco, the wife of her illicit lover, Joey Buttafuoco, who was initially charged with murder. Fisher eventually pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and served seven years in prison. Paroled in 1999, Fisher became a writer and a pornographic actress.

Buttafuoco later pleaded guilty to statutory rape and served four months in jail. He has had an occasional film career interrupted by several arrests and jail sentences.

Using her shooting as a base, Mary Jo Buttafouco became a writer and motivational speaker.

Television made three movies of the incident. Alyssa Milano, Drew Barrymore, and Noelle Parker all played Amy. Two of the movies were telecast at the same time.
12. "Fried Green Tomatoes"

Answer: Flagg

Although she was a comic skit writer, actress, and a popular talk show guest, Fanny Flagg found her true calling in her clever and nostalgic novels. Her novel "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café" became the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" (1992) that won a supporting actress award for Jessica Tandy and a screen writer Oscar for Flagg herself.
13. Nature Boy

Answer: Flair

Richard Morgan Fliehr, known professionally as Ric Flair or Nature Boy, is arguably one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. In his career that spanned more than forty years, he wrestled for all the major dominant groups. At a time when professional wrestling was a grunt and groan occupation, Flair help to raise more attention on the personalities of the performers. Fans now know that many elements are scripted but accept that for the entertainment factor.
14. "If You've Got the Money Honey I've Got the Time"

Answer: Frizzel

A friend of mine went to a Lefty Frizzel concert. It was cut short when Lefty passed out on stage as he was drunk. His alcoholism caused his declining career and was a major factor in his death at 47. However, several country stars regard him as an influence on their careers such as George Jones, Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, The Everly Brothers, Keith Whitley, Merle Haggard, and John Fogerty.

"If you've got the money honey I've got the time
We'll go honky tonkin' and we'll have a time
We'll have more fun baby all way down the line
If you've got the money honey I've got the time
There ain't no need to tarry let's start out tonight
We'll have fun oh boy oh boy and we'll do it right
Bring along your Cadillac leave my old wreck behind
If you've got the money honey I've got the time"
15. Crooner

Answer: Fisher

During his time Eddie Fisher was a successful singer but perhaps more famous for his love life. While married Debbie Reynolds, he began an affair with Elizabeth Taylor who divorced him in 1964. He had a two year marriage to Connie Stevens, less than a year to Terry Richard. He married Betty Lin in 1993 and it lasted until her death in 2001.

He had 19 songs in the top ten and four Number Ones: "Wish You Were Here", "I'm Walking Behind You," "Oh! My Pa-Pa", and "I Need You Now"
