This series was blessed with great actors Judd Hirsch, Danny De Vito, Marilu Henner, Christopher Lloyd, Andy Kaufman, Tony Danza and more. It lasted from 1978-83 and won 18 Emmy awards.

Hodges himself was a successful big leaguer with 361 homers with the Dodgers in the 50s. 1969 was his second year managing the Mets and it was also their first winning season. He died from a heart attack during spring training in 1972.
