Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sport: Which British Formula One driver frequently raced with a red number five on his car?

Answer: Nigel Mansell

Nigel Mansell's first drive in Formula One with the red five on his car was in the 1985 season when he joined the Williams-Honda team.

Whilst Mansell was at the peak of his career, the only requirement from the FIA was that the world champion carried number one on his car with his team-mate carrying number two.

Prior to the start of the 1996 season, this changed so cars were numbered sequentially with teams being allocated numbers based on where they finished the previous season in the constructors championship.
2. For Children: In the books by Reverend W Awdry, which of Thomas the Tank Engine's friends carried the number five?

Answer: James

Thomas, Edward and Gordon were all blue in colour and were numbers one, two and four respectively. Henry was green and was number three, whilst James was red and number five. The engines were all based on a fictional island called Sodor.

When initially made for television, the stories were narrated by former Beatle, Ringo Starr.
3. Movies: What is the subtitle of the fifth of the films in the "Star Trek" franchise in which Spock's half-brother hijacks the Enterprise to try and locate the mythical planet of Sha Ka Ree?

Answer: The Final Frontier

"The Voyage Home" was "Star Trek IV" and "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" was the last to entirely feature the original crew, led by Captain Kirk). The movies that primarily featured the crew from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" were not specifically numbered, however "Generation" was the seventh film of the "Star Trek" franchise.

"Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" is generally accepted as one of the weaker films in the series.
4. Television: This TV series created by J. Michael Straczynski, was set aboard a space station that was the universe's last best hope for peace. Its title contains the name of which ancient city followed by the number five?

Answer: Babylon

"Babylon 5" was set in the mid 23rd century, shortly after a war between Earth and Minbar. The station itself was the fifth attempt at setting up a space station where alien species could try and resolve their differences peacefully. The first three Babylon stations were destroyed before they were completed. Babylon 4 mysteriously disappeared shortly after becoming operational.
5. Music: The British pop group Steps had five members, but which one of the following was not one of their hits?

Answer: Blame It On The Weatherman

"5, 6, 7, 8" was the debut hit for Steps in 1997. This track, as well as "One For Sorrow" and "Better Best Forgotten" was taken from their debut album "Step One".

"Blame It On The Weatherman" was a hit for the Irish girl group B*Witched.
6. Religion: The first five books of the Old Testament are quite well known, but which is the fifth book of the New Testament?

Answer: Acts

Deuteronomy is the fifth book of the Old Testament and Daniel appears in that part of the Bible as well. Hebrews is a New Testament book, but appears much later.

The first four books of the New Testament are the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Acts (or The Acts Of The Apostles) is the fifth book.
7. Entertainment: What type of output would you expect to hear if you tuned into BBC Radio Five Live?

Answer: News and Sport

According the BBC's own statement of programme policy, Pop music for a young audience (age 15-29) is the remit of BBC Radio 1 and pop music for an adult audience (age 35+) is the remit of BBC Radio 2 (There is no mention of age 30-34!). Classical music can be found on BBC Radio 3 (all ages welcome!).

8. People: Who was the fifth wife of the English King, Henry VIII?

Answer: Catherine Howard

Catherine Howard married King Henry VIII of England just 19 days after he divorced Anne of Cleves, however she would remain married to him for only 14 months before she was accused of adultery.

Like Anne Boleyn before her, Catherine's fate was execution.
9. Literature: Which of the "Chronicles of Narnia" books, was published fifth?

Answer: The Horse And His Boy

Although many people will have a collection with "The Voyage of The Dawn Treader" marked as book number five, it was not actually the fifth to be published. The original publication order (according to Wikipedia) was:

1950: "The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe"
1951: "Prince Caspian"
1952: "The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader"
1953: "The Silver Chair"
1954: "The Horse And His Boy"
1955: "The Magician's Nephew"
1956: "The Last Battle"
10. Video Games: In 1987, Superior Interactive released its fifth set of puzzles in the Repton series. Entitled "The Life of Repton", it was an expansion pack of Repton 3, where each of the five sets of levels centred around part of Repton's life. Which was not one of the names of the levels in this series?

Answer: University

The "Repton" series of games was originally written for the BBC Microcomputer and the Acorn Electron. It required the Repton character to collect diamonds (some of which were locked in safes) whilst avoiding monsters or getting hit on the head by a rock.

"The Life of Repton" was similar to the fourth set of puzzles in so far as the standard graphics were replaced by graphics relating to the theme. For example, in the Baby levels, Repton crawled around collecting teddy bears instead of diamonds.

Besides Baby, School and Teenager, the other two level options were Work and Old Age Pensioner.
