Answer: True

The date was April 14th, 1471 and the battlefield was at Hadley Green in East Barnet. Edward IV beat Henry VI and recorded a memorable victory for the House of York.
2. The last recorded words of the Captain on the Titanic before it sank were "If we don't tell anyone, nobody will know, will they?". Is that true or false?

Answer: False

Sorry, what was I thinking of there! The Titanic sank on April 14-15, 1912 with the loss of approximately 1500 lives.
3. Halley's comet is named after the English astronomer Edmond Halley, who was the first person to identify the comet as a recurring phenomenon. Is this statement true or false?

Answer: True

In 1705 Edmond Halley predicted that comets seen in 1531, 1607, and 1682 were the same comet and that it would return in 1758. The comet was last identified as passing earth in 1985/86.
4. The country of Israel was created on 12th March, 1948. Is this statement true or false?

Answer: False

Israel was created on May 14th, 1948.
5. Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 12th March 1948. Is this statement true or false?

Answer: False

Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1869 and was shot dead by an orthodox Hindu Brahman fanatic on 30th January 1948. He was very instrumental in gaining independence for India and a staunch preacher and believer in non-violent protest and action.
6. I am sure we have all tried to tell a joke and ruined it by leaving something out the opening relation of the joke. Is the following old classic joke complete to have its punch line added to it? " A young child was away from school and on his return the teacher asked him to explain his absence. The child apologized and said he was away because "My dad got burnt yesterday". The teacher replied "Oh, I am sorry, was it serious?". Am I correct to say that if I add the punch line to this joke it will be complete?(true or false)

Answer: True

The joke has been told correctly and the (punch-line) answer the child gives the teacher is " They don't mess around at that crematorium, miss!". To avoid plagiarism allegations may I now thank just about every comedian who ever worked for the loan of this masterpiece! If this survives the editors, who is going to join me in setting up an "entertainment- joke section- part of FunTrivia"?
7. The depletion of the ozone layer is heavily blamed on society's emission of CHC gases into the atmosphere? Is this statement correct?

Answer: False

The depletion of the ozone layer is heavily blamed on society emitting chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's) into the atmosphere. The ozone layer is the part of the atmosphere that helps protect us from the sun's ultra-violet radiation that can cause cancer particularly of the skin.
8. Acid rain is usually caused by sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides being emitted into the atmosphere by the actions of humans. Is this statement true or false?

Answer: True

These gases are given off when fossil fuels are burnt, also by cars and industrial processes. They form sulphuric acid and nitric acid and anyone who knows these two acids from chemistry will appreciate how destructive they can be when rain falls.
9. Carbon monoxide in the atmosphere is allegedly the cause of global warming and the so-called "greenhouse effect". Is this statement true or false?

Answer: False

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the alleged cause of global warming. (Carbon monoxide (CO) is heavily inflammable and would quickly burn in the atmosphere to create carbon dioxide and water). It is the emission of carbon dioxide and other trace gases particularly from the burning of fossil fuels that creates a type of greenhouse that retains the sun's heat rays.
10. Finally, is it true that scientists have not yet proved (as at July 2003) that intelligent life exists anywhere in our solar system?

Answer: False

Well sorry about that, but the quiz was quite hard so I slipped that one in just to see who was still awake. It has been alleged that the planet earth contains some form of intelligent life, however probably only existing within the membership of FunTrivia.
