From 1854 until 1912, the area was known as the Town of Berlin. In 1912, the name changed to the City of Berlin for four years. It became Kitchener in late 1916. The name Kitchener was picked to honor a war veteran named Horatio Herbert Kitchener.

Kitchener is a nice size city with about 204668 residents according to the 2006 Census information. Kitchener does not have an NHL hockey team in town, so people tend to drive to Toronto to watch the Toronto Maple Leafs play (if they like hockey).

The event is known as Oktoberfest. It runs nine days starting the Friday before the Thanksgiving. It is based on the German Oktoberfest. People from all over the world have come to Kitchener-Waterloo for the festivities. There is a lot of beer and lots of dancing. The food is out of this world!

He was seen as one of the great Canadian landscape painters. Oscar Wilde dubbed him the "Canadian Constable". This was a comparison to English painter John Constable who was known for his landscapes.

Answer: William Lyon Mackenzie King

William Lyon Mackenzie King was born in Kitchener on December 17th, 1874 and died on July 22nd, 1950. He was the longest serving Prime Minister in the British Commonwealth, serving 21 years. "Rex" as his friends called him, was able to complete five university degrees including a B.A., M.A. and an LL.B.
