Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When you do your packing, don't forget to throw in your swimsuit. For what mode of river transport was Mark Twain a licensed operator?

Answer: Paddle steamer

Interestingly, Mark Twain was a licensed steamboat operator and by all accounts, enjoyed the work very much. The amenities for passengers gradually improved over time, and included the opportunity to gamble. Vessels that were for charter, but which did not have regular schedules, were known as tramp steamers.
The United Kingdom has an active paddle steamer preservation society.
All aboard!

Answer: Tribune

There were a number of different sorts of tribune, but they all functioned in magisterial roles, whether administering civil justice or acting to ensure the welfare of the legions where they served as senior officers.

Ironically, this activity shares a name with a strenuous activity that takes place over 42.195 kilometres...what are we doing this weekend?

Answer: Marathon

While watching television can be both relaxing and informative, a number of studies have shown that excessive viewing can increase the likelihood of illnesses like diabetes, and even shorten one's expected lifespan! All things in moderation.
The marathon is a popular event in the Olympic Games and often offers a great tour of the host city. At the London Games of 2012, the marathon started and finished in The Mall, with Buckingham Palace at the west end.
4. What's a weekend without some gardening? Let's pack our bags and visit some gardens for some inspiration. Hatfield House (UK), Palazzo Piccolomini (Italy) and Townsend House (USA) are all examples of what sort of garden design?

Answer: Knot

The knot gardens of the Renaissance were formal gardens of geometric design that usually included herbs and plants with fragrant foliage. Some favourite plants for a knot garden include box, lavender and herbs. 5. Some people are fascinated by The Ghan, The Orient Express, and The Flying Scotsman. Pack your bags, we're going by what mode of transport?

Answer: train

Australia is a big country! On The Ghan, you can travel from Adelaide in the south to Darwin in the North, via Alice Springs. covering 2,979 kilometres, that will take from (for example) Sunday noon to 6pm on Tuesday. The country travelled through is breathtakingly beautiful, and it's possible to break the journey and do some side trips.

The Flying Scotsman commenced operating in 1862, and runs between London and Edinburgh. Of course, the Orient Express is very famous, and is the subject of numerous novels and movies, including Agatha Christie's 'Murder on the Orient Express'.
6. This weekend we're really going to have some fun! We're going to display all our knowledge. So, for starters, can you tell me what board game we'd be playing if, for a correct answer, you were awarded a green, yellow, pink, blue, brown or orange 'piece of pie'?

Answer: Trivial Pursuit

I love playing trivia! One of my favourite things is to get lost in the researching of the questions, as it adds depth to my knowledge. My very favourite is to play online trivia in a chat room with my online friends! The word trivia is the plural of trivium, which is Latin for a "place where three roads meet".
7. Leave space one weekend for Tombstone rubbing. Whose tomb would I be doing a rubbing at if I traced: "LECTOR, SI MONUMENTUM REQUIRIS CIRCUMSPICE" (Reader, if you seek his monument look around you)?

Answer: Christopher Wren

Christopher Wren was responsible for the rebuilding of St Paul's Cathedral in London (after the Great Fire of 1666), where he is buried. The inscription is an invitation to view the genius of this great architect.
8. Winter is approaching and it's time for an indoor activity. It's time to re-read the Chronicles of Narnia. In the 'Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe' Edmund is lured into doing the wrong thing by the White Witch, who offered him as much as he could eat of which confection?

Answer: Turkish delight

Poor Edmund was properly tricked by the White Witch and had to be rescued by Aslan. Turkish Delight is a gelatine-based sweet that is usually flavoured with rose water.

Jorvik is in York, England; Lotte World is in Korea and Stagecoach Stop is in the USA.
10. There's nothing like music for relaxing at the weekend. Among other things, which musician wrote 'Swan Lake', 'Eugene Onegin' and 'Variations On A Rococo Theme'?

Answer: Tchaikovsky

There are a number of studies that point to the health benefits of listening to music, including assisting the brain process information, reducing stress, assisting sleep and lowering blood pressure. That's apart from the fun of singing your lungs out to your favourite song!
