Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Veronica Crook was nanny to which UK Tory MP when he was younger, and then went on to be nanny to his six children?

Answer: Jacob Rees-Mogg

Crook was nanny to Rees-Mogg for many years. When he first entered politics in 1997, aged 27, he took his nanny to help him with door to door canvassing. When people made fun of him, in an amazing disassociation from the 20th century, he replied, "I do wish you wouldn't keep going on about my nanny. If I had a valet you'd think it was perfectly normal." Crook started working for the Rees-Mogg family in 1966.
2. Mary Robertson hired a nanny in 1980, to help look after her son Patrick. Just one year later, the nanny became one of the most photographed women of the 20th century. Who was she?

Answer: Diana Spencer

Diana had worked as a dance instructor, a preschool assistant and a cleaner before signing up as an agency nanny and working for the Robertsons. She married Prince Charles in July 1981 and became Princess of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess of Rothesay, and Countess of Chester.
3. Who played nanny Euphegenia Doubtfire in a 1993 movie directed by Chris Columbus?

Answer: Robin Williams

Williams was a talented comedian and actor, winning an Oscar for "Good Will Hunting" (1997) and also being nominated for "Dead Poets Society" (1989), Good Morning Vietnam" (1987) and "The Fisher King" (1991). In the Columbus movie, "Mrs. Doubtfire" (1993) he played a voice actor, who once divorced becomes a nanny in order to spend more time with his children.
4. Queen Nanny of the Maroons is on the $500 bill of which country?

Answer: Jamaica

It is believed that Nanny was transported from Africa to Jamaica as a slave, escaping slavery and emerging as a leader of the Maroon people, who organised the majority of the slave rebellions in Jamaica. During the first Maroon War (1720-1739) against British settlers, she proved herself to be an exceptional military leader, highly skilled in the tactics of guerilla warfare.

She is believed to have died some time in the 1740s and in 1982 was awarded Order of the National Hero by the Jamaican government.
5. "Nanny McPhee" (2006) starred Emma Thompson in the titular role, but who played the part of hapless widower Cedric Brown, the man whose life she turned around?

Answer: Colin Firth

Nanny McPhee becomes the 17th nanny employed by Cedric Brown and the first one able to control his unruly children, which she does through respect and a healthy smattering of magic. Colin Firth has appeared in many films during his long career including "Bridget Jones's Diary" (2001), "A Single Man" (2009), "The King's Speech" (2010) and "Love Actually" (2003) in which he co-starred with his "Nanny McPhee" partner, Emma Thompson.
6. In which country would I be, if I were trout fishing on the Nanny River?

Answer: Ireland

The Nanny River flows into the Irish Sea at Laytown in County Meath, having originated near Kentstown in Leinster. Apart from its excellent trout fishing, the river also provides an important habitat for several species of wading birds at its estuary and is protected under the European Union Birds Directive.
7. A male nanny is often referred to as a "manny", however Manny Pacquiao made his name in sport, not in childcare. With which sport is he associated?

Answer: Boxing

Manny Pacquiao is famous for being world champion in eight different boxing weight divisions. In 2007, he turned his hand to politics in his native Philippines and became a senator in 2016. He is father to five children, so I'm sure he often assumes the role of Manny Manny.
8. Who was the nanny to the royals that became well known for being a companion to Princes William and Harry during their parent's divorce and comforting them when their mother died in 1997?

Answer: Tiggy Legge-Bourke

Legge-Bourke was born Alexandra Shan Legge-Bourke but acquired her unusual nickname after opening a nursery school in Battersea, called Mrs Tiggywinkle's in the early 1990s. She was hired by Prince Charles in 1993, shortly after he and Diana had separated, and remained in his service until 1999, when she left to get married.
9. In which 1981 TV series, based on a 1945 novel, did Mona Washbourne play Nanny Hawkins, much loved nanny to the Flyte children?

Answer: Brideshead Revisited

Evelyn Waugh's novel with its themes of Catholicism and romance appears on almost every new list of classic books that must be read, and the 1981 TV adaptation starring Jeremy Irons made it more accessible to many people and won much acclaim. Mona Washbourne starred in a variety of movies, such as "The Brides Of Dracula" (1960), "Billy Liar" (1963), "My Fair Lady" (1964) and "Stevie" (1978) for which she garnered Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations.
10. Which Scottish brewery produces a non alcoholic craft beer called "Nanny State" as well as its better known brews such as "Punk" and "Dead Pony Club"?

Answer: Brewdog

Brewdog can always be counted on for both excellent beers and unique names. Other beers manufactured by them include "Elvis Juice", "Tactical Nuclear Penguin" and "Cybernaut Bomber." They have been brewing since 2007 and in 2013 claimed the world's strongest beer crown with "Snake Venom" at a reputed 67.5%. As expected it also had a hefty price tag, selling at £50 for 275 millilitres.
