Answer: Patti LuPone

A graduate of Julliard and a member of John Houseman's "The Acting Company", LuPone had appeared on Broadway for several years before her standout role as Eva Peron in "Evita", for which she won the Tony Award. She worked in numerous productions over the years including "Les Miserables", "Anything Goes", and "Gypsy", for which she won her second Tony Award.

2. A place where rice is grown

Answer: Paddy

A paddy is a flat, flooded field used to grow semi-aquatic rice. In hilly terrain, the paddies are cut into terraces to allow for flooding the land. The technique of using paddy fields is believed to have started in China and evidence of rice paddies dates back before 4000 B.C.E. in the region.

The name of "paddy" is of Malay origin from the word "padi" which refers to rice growing in the husk.
3. Model, photographer, and musical muse known as "Layla"

Answer: Pattie Boyd

Pattie Boyd was a model during the Swinging Sixties, and she met Beatle George Harrison when she had a small role as a schoolgirl in the Beatles film "A Hard Day's Night". She reportedly was the inspiration for his song "Something", although Harrison later denied it and claimed other sources of inspiration.

His close friend Eric Clapton also fell for Boyd and later married her; he wrote several songs about her including "Layla" and "Wonderful Tonight". Besides modeling, Boyd was keen on photography and released books with candid shots of many of the rock stars she met.
4. Oscar-winning screenwriter and playwright

The multi-talented Chayefsky also wrote the science fiction novel "Altered States" which was made into a Ken Russell film in 1980, and he was an inaugural member of the Television Hall of Fame in 1984 for his teleplays from the early years of television.
5. A flattened portion of food, usually round

Answer: Patty

The term "patty" is probably most commonly used in conjunction with "hamburger", but it refers to any type of flat, formed food. It is also used with candy, such as a peppermint patty, and in British usage, it can be a pie or turnover. It is also used in Jamaica as a term for a savory pastry. The term evolved from the French word paté, reportedly in the 1700s.
6. Spanish-born Italian opera star of the 19th century

Answer: Adelina Patti

The opera singer Adelina Patti (1843-1919) was one of the most famous and best-paid sopranos of the nineteenth century. At the height of her career, her contracts called for $5,000 a night paid in advance in gold. Raised in New York, Patti started singing as a child and was still in her teens when she sang at the White House for the Lincolns. Early recordings of her voice are lost to history, and although later recordings exist, her voice was reportedly past its prime by then.
7. A town in Sicily, Italy

Answer: Patti

The town of Patti is located about 50 miles/75 kilometres outside of Messina on the island of Sicily. It is mainly known for its Greek and Roman ruins. The name of "Patti" evolved from the Greek name of the site, Ep Aktin.
8. Oscar-winning actress known for portraying Helen Keller

Answer: Patty Duke

Anna Marie "Patty" Duke was an actress whose career started when she was just a child. She originated the role of Helen Keller in "The Miracle Worker" on Broadway, and she picked up the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for the same role in the 1962 film.

She then went on to star in her own television show, "The Patty Duke Show", in which she played the unusual dual role of identical cousins. She continued to act as an adult and served as the president of the Screen Actors Guild in the 1980s.
9. An Australian yacht built for the 1967 America's Cup race

Answer: Dame Pattie

Named for the wife of Australian Prime Minister Sir Robert Menzies, the Dame Pattie was a 12-metre racing class yacht built in New South Wales for the America's Cup challenge in 1967. The race was held at Newport, Rhode Island with the Australian skipper being 1956 Olympic yachting medalist Jock Sturrock. Unfortunately for Mrs. Menzies, her namesake lost the challenge 0 to 4 against the American yacht Intrepid skippered by Emil Mosbacher.
10. Godmother of punk rock

Answer: Patti Smith

One of the main players in the 1970s New York punk music scene, Patti Smith received critical acclaim for the 1975 album "Horses" released by her band, the Patti Smith Group, and produced by John Cale. Although never a major commercial success, Smith had an impact on pop culture and music.

She was the inspiration for Gilda Radner's Candy Slice character on "Saturday Night Live", and artists as diverse as Michael Stipe, Courtney Love, and Madonna all claim to be influenced by her, as did Rage Against the Machine's Zack De La Rocha, who inducted her into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
