Answer: Isca

It literally meant river for which the Romans were so thankful this area had. The name was later changed by the Celtics, who called it Exe, after the Celtic name for water, from which today's name is derived. There is much debate however what a citizen of Exeter is called, half say Iscians and the others say Exonians.
2. If you travel into Exeter, you will notice the sign, with the motto 'Exeter, it's a capital city.', as it is the administrative city of Devon. This is not Exeter's official motto however. What is it?

Answer: Semper fidelis

It was suggested by Queen Elizabeth I, meaning 'always faithful'.

Answer: Lisieux - France

In fact Exeter is also twinned with Rennes in France. Lisieux is twinned with a city near Exeter called Taunton.
