Slovenia also shares a border with Austria. Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia and was the first country to secede from it in 1991. Slovenia has an area of 20,273 square kilometers. In 2016, the population was just over two million. Since 2004 Slovenia has been a member of the European Union.
