1. What emblem(s) was on the CSA "Bonnie Blue Flag"?

Answer: Star

The blue flag had a single white star in the center. It is believed to have been modeled after the flag of South Carolina and the Lone Star flag of Texas. The single star represented secession, the removal of the star from the Stars and Stripes, and independence in that it stood alone.

Answer: Col. Nathan Evans

This was the Message Col. "Shanks" Evans received from the Van Pelt signal tower in his rear. He had observed a line of dust and suspected that Union troops may have been moving on his position. He took about 1,000 men toward the dust cloud but he did'nt know that was the main body of the Union Army. With the help of about 500 Louisians troops he was able to stall the Union advance long enough for CSA reinforcements to arrive.

Gen. Lee had ordered food and supplies be sent from Lynchburg,Va. to Farmville. When he reached there on April 7, 1865 the supplies were there, but before the troops could finish cooking their food word came that Union troops were approaching. His troops were able to hold the Union troops off till dark than began their march towards Appomattox where they surrendered on April 9, 1865.

Pres. Lincoln notified Gov. Pickens that he would attempt to resupply Fort Sumter. P.G.T.Beauregard was ordered to demend the evacuation or give the ultimatum to Maj. Anderson who said he would evacuate the Fort if ordered. Gen. Beauregard told him it was unacceptable and he would open fire. The CSA guns fired at 4:30 AM April 12,1861.
5. What was the Chimborazo?

Answer: CSA Hospital

After the capacity of the City Hospital in Richmond was exceeded the Chimborazo was built to receive the overflow of wounded. It began receiving patients in 1862. During the war it received and treated about 76,000 patients surpassing the Lincoln Hospital in Washington which treated about 46,000.

One of of the largest paroles came at Vicksburg where about 31,000 were paroled. At Appomattox about 28,300 were paroled.

Maj. John Chivington commanded the "Pike's Peakers". He led about 400 troops and attacked 250 Texans at Apache Canyon. The Texans had a strong position but were unable to to hold it and had to retreat.

Sherman left Savannah on Feb. 5, 1865 with 60,000 men and headed for Columbia. On Feb. 15, 1865 the first Union troops reached the Congaree river across from Columbia. On the morning of Feb. 17, 1865 the Mayor of Columbia met the Union troops and surrendered the city.

Gen. Hooker had confidence that his Army could destroy Gen. Lee in April 1863. He sent Gen. Stoneman across the Rappahannock with about 10,000 men to raid deep in CSA hoping to turn the left line of Gen. Lee . It started to rain when they left and the so called raid turned into a meaningless venture.

He lost 1000 horses and about 400 men and when he returned to Hooker on May 7, 1863 he found Hooker had been beaten at Chancellorsville.
10. What was the nickname of Gen. Jackson's troops.

Answer: Foot Cavalry

His men were able to march about 25 miles a day. At the raid of Manassas Junction they marched 50 miles in two days.
