Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During 'A History of Ashes', which attribute is affected by Harrow readings?

Answer: Strength

Thematically, Strength makes sense for this chapter. As the heroes of the campaign leave Korvosa, there's an urge to rebuild themselves, leaving the city that acted as their base of operations for the first half of the story. Strength also ends up being a big factor when dealing with the trials of the Shoanti visited in the Cinderlands in this and the next chapters of the campaign. Any Harrow Points gained in this chapter can allow for Strength-based rerolls, enhancement of character size for a short time, or give +5 as an attack bonus on any melee or natural weapon for one combat.
2. A visit to the town of Harse marks the return of what character seen earlier in the campaign?

Answer: Trinia Sabor

Trinia Sabor, who Vencarlo Orisini likely escorted out of the city as Blackjack at the end of the first chapter ("Edge of Anarchy") is found to be hiding out in Harse, a small town far enough from Korvosa to avoid Queen Ileosa's gaze. Trinia is at the Blackbird Ranch just outside the town and she'll be reunited with the heroes along with Neolandus and Vencarlo. Neolandus will urge the party to head to the Cinderlands, far northeast of Korvosa above the Storval Plateau, as knowledge of Kazavon and Midnight's Teeth, which may be influencing the Queen, can likely be found amongst the Shoanti tribes there.
3. Players can gain bonuses using which of these Shoanti items, applied before or during battle?

Answer: War paint

While there are likely more colours, eight are commonly found in the Shoanti camps when they're visited ranging along the spectrum and including black and white. Once applied, the war paint gives its effects for a full day and then wears off. Considered wondrous items, these can do many unique things from granting a semi-permanent Blur spell to enhancing move speed to granting AC bonuses and fire resistance.
4. This chapter expands the influence of the Brotherhood of Bones, a sect supporting what "Pathfinder" God?

Answer: Zon-Kuthon

Zon-Kuthon, a lawful evil God in Golarion, has a minor role in the events of the preceding chapter of the campaign ("Skeletons of Scarwall"), but the Brotherhood of Bones (and Shadowcount Sial) starts to gain more prominence now (after a brief appearance via Laori in "Escape From Old Korvosa").

Their goal, ultimately, is to reclaim the relics of Kazavon to bring their God back to this plane, and to do that Sial has somewhat of a similar goal to the heroes - to depose Queen Ileosa. For now, he's just investigating.
5. Who of these is not a member of a Shoanti tribe?

Answer: Sredna

Eventually, the heroes will arrive at the Kallow Mounds in the Cinderland and find themselves the audience of the Skoan-Quah, possibly facing off against them in a local battle of strength and endurance known as the Sredna. Thousand Bones will reappear at this time, indebted after his nephew (whose body is found in "Edge of Anarchy") has been buried.

The heroes will also meet with the leery Krojun. If any of the player characters are of Shoanti descent, gaining the tribes' trust may be easier, but the uphill battle to get an in with the Shoanti will encompass most of the rest of the chapter as they won't give info about Kazavon so willingly. Ultimately, they'll need to contact the Sklar-Quah's Sun Shaman to learn more, but because they're outlanders (tshamek, in Shoanti), there's more to be done.
6. Which of these can be obtained from the Acropolis of the Thrallkeepers?

Answer: Spherewalker's Mark

Heading to the edge of the Wyvern Mountains will be an early stage in the chain quest in the Cinderlands because a visit to the Acropolis of the Thrallkeepers will bring the heroes one step closer to meeting with the Lyrune-Quah, the Moon Clan, where they can speak with one named the Truthspeaker.

This proves to be an interesting juncture because it may be the first location at which the heroes encounter Sial or it may be the location at which they first encounter some Red Mantis Assassins sent out by Queen Ileosa's people to kill them.

In the end, the goal is to find the basement chamber and the Golarion Globe. Someone will need to magically teleport inside to receive the Spherewalker's Mark, required to meet the Truthspeaker, but to do that they'll need to fight through the beasts of the Acropolis... some of which have a lot of tentacles.
7. What monster makes its home in the House of the Moon?

Answer: Red Reaver

The Lyrune-Quah will be at the House of the Moon at this point in their nomadic pilgrimage, and once someone has a Spherewalker's Mark it'll be the next logical destination. Unfortunately, the Truthspeaker won't speak to anyone until the Red Reaver inside goes away, but the strong beast won't leave with no reason. Once he vacates, the Lyrune-Quah will be able to inhabit the temple and Truthspeaker Akram will follow the party to their next destination, perhaps the most dangerous yet.
8. What is the name of the purple worm, also known as 'The Clan Eater', which must eat one of the player heroes?

Answer: Cindermaw

Ultimately, an outsider can be trustworthy to the right clan if they are devoured by Cindermaw, a fire-infused purple worm in The Cinderlands, and they manage to get out. And with the Truthspeaker amongst the group, there's no lying about this particular part of the quest chain.

When Cindermaw's feeding grounds are found, a fight can commence and the heroes can do their best to reenact the Shoanti legend. Then, it's onward to the Sklar-Quah and, hopefully, some answers from Chief Ready-Klar and the Sun Shamans.
9. During the Trial of the Totems, how long must a totem be held in place?

Answer: Two days

If the Truthspeaker is successful in conveying your heroes' feats to the Sklar-Quah, one final challenge must be overcome to gain respect: The Trial of the Totem. This requires each hero to hold up a heavy totem atop Bolt Rock, preventing it from falling for two whole days.

This isn't too easy. Between frequent distractions, likely heat, and inevitable battles, attaining a vision of the sun and becoming a member of the Sklar-Quah may seem to be a bit of an ordeal. If anyone makes it to the third dawn with the totem intact, then they succeed.
10. What is the name of the Red Mantis assassin sent by Queen Ileosa to pursue the heroes into the Cinderlands?

Answer: Cinnabar

In the end of the chapter, Korvosa seems to catch up. After completing the trials of the Sklar-Quah (or not), Red Mantis assassins (led by Cinnabar) and a slew of Ashwing Gargoyles will descend upon the Shoanti camp in the middle of the night, intending to unleash a deadly, and chaotic assault. If the heroes succeed in fighting off the attackers, the Sun Shaman will be more than happy to tell the stories about Scarwall, leading into the next stage of the adventure and pointing to the way to defeat Kazavon's influence once and for all.
