Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Game For Your Whole Brain

Answer: Cranium

"Cranium" was created in 1998 by Richard Tait and Whit Alexander, two Microsoft workers who quit their jobs to develop the game.

It borrows from popular party games, requiring teams of players to complete activities in four categories - Creative Cat (get your team to guess a word by either drawing it or sculpting it in clay), Data Head (trivia questions), Word Worm (various word-based challenges), and Star Performer (whistle a song, impersonate a celebrity, or act out a clue).
2. The Hilarious Bluffing Game

Answer: Balderdash

Based on the classic parlour game "Dictionary" (also known as "Fictionary"), "Balderdash" requires players to try to come up with plausible definitions for obscure words that most people would never have heard of.

Points are awarded if your definition closely resembles the actual definition, if you guess the correct definition, and also if other players chose your "fake" definition as what they believe to be the actual definition.
3. The Game Of Quick Draw

Answer: Pictionary

Basically "drawing charades", "Pictionary" requires players to correctly guess a word or phrase from their teammates' drawings.

Invented by Robert Angel and first published in 1985, teams progress round a board formed by a sequence of different coloured squares. The colour of the square the team is on determines what type of word or phrase the team will be guessing - Person/Place/Animal, Object, Action, Difficult, or All Play (where teams compete against each other to draw and guess the same word).
4. The Classic Mystery Game

Answer: Clue / Cluedo

Devised by Englishman Anthony Pratt, "Cluedo" (or "Clue" as it is known in North America) is a murder mystery board game in which three to six players try to determine the details behind the death of Dr. Black (or Mr. Boddy in North America).

Each player selects a character, and uses dice throws to move around the game board, making "suggestions" as to the murderer, weapon used, and room in which the murder was committed which may or may not be "denied" by the showing of a corresponding card by another player.

The winner is the first person to formally make an accusation correctly naming the murderer, weapon used, and room in which the murder was committed.
5. The Game Of Unspeakable Fun

Answer: Taboo

Originally published by Parker Brothers in 1989, "Taboo" is a game where players take turns trying to get their teammates to guess a word without using the five common additional words or phrases written on the card.

For example, the word to guess might be "nose", and the five words which cannot be used when describing might be "smell", "face", "sense", "nostril", and "body".

Naturally gestures are NOT allowed!
6. The Fast-Dealing Property Trading Game

Answer: Monopoly

One of the best selling board games of all time, the game we know today as "Monopoly" was based on "The Landlord's Game" created by American anti-monopolist Elizabeth J. Magie Phillips as an educational tool to illustrate the negative aspects of concentrating land in private monopolies.

Parker Brothers first published the "Monopoly" version of the game in 1935, and numerous regional (for example, "Essex Edition" and "Yorkshire Edition" in the UK) and themed versions (for example, "Abba Edition" and various "Star Wars" editions) have been released since.
7. The Game Of Sweet Revenge

Answer: Sorry!

Based on the ancient game "Pachisi", "Sorry!" was developed in the UK by William Henry Storey of Southend-on-Sea, and was registered as a trademark on 21st May 1929.

The aim of the game is to get your four game pieces to your Home before the other players, with movement of pieces being determined by the drawing of a card on your turn.
8. A Game Of Zany Action On A Crazy Contraption

Answer: Mouse Trap

First published in 1963 by Ideal, and one of the first three-dimensional board games, "Mouse Trap" is a game for two to four players that has two distinct "phases".

Phase one sees players work together to build the Rube Goldberg inspired mousetrap as they move their mice playing pieces across the board.

Once the mousetrap has been completely constructed, phase two sees the players attempt to capture each others' mice in it by turning the crank, which activates the mousetrap, the winner being the last mouse who avoids being captured.
9. The Game Of Global Domination

Answer: Risk

Originally released in France in 1957 as "La Conquête du Monde" (The Conquest of the World), "Risk" was invented by French film director Albert Lamorisse and is arguably the most popular, mass market war game in the world.

Two to six players can play, and on each turn a player goes through three main phases - getting and placing new armies, attacking, and fortifying - with the ultimate aim of occupying every territory on the board, thereby winning the game.
10. The Classic Shake, Score, And Shout Dice Game

Answer: Yahtzee

"Yahtzee" is a classic dice game played with five dice. Each player's turn consists of rolling the dice up to three times in the hope of making one of thirteen categories - for example "Threes" where the player sums the dice showing the number three, "Full House" where the player scores 25 points for rolling three of one number and two of another, and "Large Straight" where the player score 40 points for rolling five sequential dice (1-2-3-4-5 or 2-3-4-5-6).

The ultimate outcome is to roll all five dice showing the same number. This is known as "Yahtzee" and scores a massive 50 points!
