Board Games by Tag Line Trivia Quiz

Looking at my shelf of board games I noticed many of them have a slogan or tag line that attempts to give a short summary of the game. Can you match the games to the slogan?

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Game of Unspeakable Fun

Answer: Taboo

Taboo is a game played in teams. On their turn, one member of a team has to describe words given on a series of cards, however, there are other words on the card that they are not allowed to use in their description. These words are commonly associated with the word being described. The other team members have to guess as many of the words being described within the given time limit.
2. The Hilarious Bluffing Game

Answer: Balderdash

In the game of Balderdash players have to suggest meanings for strange words. These are then read out along with the correct definition and players have to decide which is the correct definition. Points are awarded for guessing the correct definition and for fooling players into picking a false definition.
3. The Exciting Pop-O-Matic Race Game

Answer: Frustration / Trouble

Frustration, or Trouble as it's known in the USA, is a game in which players compete to be the first to move four counters around the board and into their 'home' area. They do this by rolling a die to see how many spaces they can move. This is similar to many other games including, Ludo, Pachisi and Sorry, however the difference with Frustration is that the die is encased in a sprung plastic dome. Rather than rolling the die players push on the dome and the sprung plate pops the die into the air.

It is this "popping" of the die which gives rise to the "pop-o-matic" aspect of the tag line.
4. The Classic Naval Combat Game

Answer: Battleship

In the game of battleship players guess a position on a grid hoping to score a 'hit' on the other players ships. The game is based on a game played with pencil and paper dating back to World War I. The plastic board game version was released by Milton Bradley in 1967.
5. The Classic Mystery Game

Answer: Cluedo / Clue

In Cluedo players have to work out who committed a murder. Players do this by trying to find out which cards are in a central envelope and not in other players' hands. The game is called Cluedo in the UK and Clue in the USA.
6. Fast-Dealing Property Trading Game

Answer: Monopoly

In the game of Monopoly players compete to be the richest player and bankrupt the others by buying properties and building houses and hotels on them in order to take money off other players when they land on them. The first Monopoly sets were sold by Parker Brothers in 1936 using street names from Atlantic City, New Jersey.
7. A Race for Treasure in a Moving Maze

Answer: Labyrinth

In Labyrinth players have to move their playing piece to various locations on the board with the first player to visit all their locations the winner. They do this by sliding rows of pieces in order to create a path for their playing piece to follow.
8. The 3 Minute Word Game

Answer: Boggle

Boggle consists of a four by four grid into which lettered cubes are shaken. Players then get three minutes to find as many words as they can in the grid. Points are scored for finding words that no other player has with more points awarded for longer words.
9. The Game Of Global Domination

Answer: Risk

The aim of Risk is for players to have at least one of their pieces in each territory space on the board. The board is designed like a map of the world and the territories relate roughly to real world countries or regions. In order to attack and conquer new territories players roll two sets of dice (one for the 'defending' player and one for the 'attacking' player), whoever gets the higher number on the dice removes a counter from the opposition player's territory, this continues until the territory is conquered or only one attacking piece remains.
10. Quick Sketches, Hilarious Guesses

Answer: Pictionary

Pictionary is another game played in teams. The game starts with all teams playing one person in each team has to draw a given word for the other members of their team to guess within the given time limit. The team that gets the word right then gets to roll the dice and move their counter the corresponding number of spaces.

The square they land on will determine the category for the next word. A team continues their turn until they cannot guess a word, when this happens play transfers to the next team.

The winning team is the one who makes it to the final square on the board first.
