Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This is the card flavor text for the Tempest version Counterspell. I remember my good old friend chanting this during our rath cycle counter wars. Do you remember the text guys?

Answer: It was probably a lousy spell in the first place

I hope that the counterspell card would get reprinted come 10th edition. I've probably used this card more than any other and I will surely miss it if it rotates out of extended.
2. This is probably one of the most sought after land cards in the game. Not only will it allow you to draw a card if you've got exactly seven cards in hand, but it can also provide a colorless mana if you need some. What powerful land is this?

Answer: Library Of Alexandria

The library is a restricted land card because of its powerful ability. It is especially handy if you are not playing blue because it gives you card advantage when used properly. Now, include this in a blue deck and you will always have maximum hand size.
3. This is the most famous artifact that necro players need to cast out those early Juzam's or Sinkhole's way back. Lucky are those people who kept a copy of this because buying this card nowadays is like buying a top end cellphone. What is this gem?

Answer: Mox Jet

The Mox Jet is included in the power nine set and is a key ingredient to a powerful black Necropotence-based deck.
4. This artifact was only released in the middle of 2004 and yet, it saw play in vintage formats. It was a key element in Landstill decks' success. What is this artifact?

Answer: Crucible Of Worlds

How fun it is! Imagine a blue control deck that has the ability to nuke your opponent's lands turn after turn. That wouldn't have been possible without the Crucible. Another amazing fact is that you can use it for any deck type because it is colorless. So, what are you waiting for? It's time to bring out those old Strip Mines and Wastelands again.
5. I cannot say that this is the most famous counterspell there is nor the most powerful one but I'm pretty sure that this is the hardest one to find, given that it was only issued in very limited print runs in English and Italian. Jellyfish fans, what blue card is this?

Answer: Mana Drain

It is simply a debate whether Mana Drain or FOW is better. Both of them are great. It's just that each of them work in a different style. FOW is passive-defensive and can save you in a lot of situations even in NDE's; Mana Drain is aggressive-offensive and can deny those not so early threats and convert it to quick Mindslavers.
6. The card is Smokestack. Is the controller required to put a soot counter on it on every of his upkeeps?

Answer: no

You may choose not to put a soot counter on it on each of your upkeeps but be sure to take the consequence if you do. If you have this in play with soot counters on it, look at your opponents face. Nothing will top that.
7. This is probably the best one drop red creature there is. It can manipulate artifacts in play and in the graveyard, whether it is yours or your opponents'. This one came out from Urza's Legacy. Can you name this one?

Answer: Goblin Welder

Another debate arises whether the Goblin Welder or the Grim Lavamancer is the best red one drop. It is simple. The lavamancer can sizzle out those weenies and nuke out your opponents skull for two as long as you've got a fat graveyard. He is simply great with an extended RDW and there's no doubt about it. On the otherhand, the welder can decide the game sometimes as early as turn two. Combine the welder with powerful broken artifacts and workshops, and you've got a winner.
8. This green enchantment is probably the most powerful green enchantment of all time. It was once our groups' favorite card because for only two mana to play, you can get the biggest and baddest creatures out of your deck during your upkeep if your opponent has more creatures than you. What is this?

Answer: Oath Of Druids

There were many versions of the Oath deck that just came out about two years ago but the most powerful one I've seen is not a blue-based one. It is a multi-colored Oath deck that originated from Glenmore, Philippines and the deck uses Serra Avatars, Crater Helions, and Academy Rectors.

The deck has a Sneak Attack combo and an assortment of broken rath cycle and urza cycle cards. I've seen this deck work and it does kill your opponent in turn one. Nothing I have ever seen in a standard tournament before after the downfall of the Tolarian Academy deck.

The deck rotated out of standard and they took it to extended and it even got better. Thanks to "The Saint."
9. This is the best card searcher of all time I reckon. Compared to its earlier cousin that will let you search a card only during your turn for 2, but this one will allow you to do it for 1 at anytime you wish but with a lifeloss drawback. The question is in what set was this card originally released?

Answer: Visions

The Vampiric Tutor was a fan favorite when it was released. The hype it got came from a various number of tier one decks that had a foundation built around the tutor. Tremendous speed and utility is the best you can get if you've got a copy or two in you deck.
10. Red burn decks were once a popular tournament deck in vintage. There were many versions of it. Some with goblins and some are just pure cheese. Those decks are contenders because of the fast style of play and their efficiencies. Majority of the spells have a low casting cost. However, one of the burn spells have an alternate casting cost. It is quite costly but it deals 4 to any target. What is this fiery hot card?

Answer: Fireblast

Sacrificing two mountains is quite heavy but come turn 4 or 5, it does not matter anymore. Imagine having only two mountains in play with two Lightning Bolts and a Fireblast in hand. If I'm correct, it's 10 to the skull. Fireblast is simply a staple to every vintage burn deck there is.
