Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the difference between buildings (square pieces) and tokens (round pieces)?

Answer: Buildings can only be placed in slots

Each clearing has from one to three square slots in it that buildings must be placed in. If there are no available slots then a building cannot be built. There is no limit to the number of tokens that can be placed in a clearing (though faction-specific rules may prevent this, such as the Woodland Alliance who may have only one sympathy token in a given clearing).

Both buildings and tokens, when destroyed, grant one point to the player who destroyed them. The number of tokens available is still limited by what comes in the box; new substitutes are not added.
2. Players may only move warriors from clearings they control.

Answer: False

Movement rules can be a bit tricky for new players. When moving warriors, the player must rule either the origin OR the destination clearing. If a player controls neither, then they may not move their warriors between them.

Movement rules for the Vagabond pawn (which is not a warrior) are a separate category.
3. Which cards are set aside when they would be discarded, and can be taken by discarding a card of the same suit?

Answer: Dominance (new win condition)

On their turn, if there are any dominance cards in the discard pile, a player may discard a card from their hand of the matching suit to take that dominance card (a bird card must be discarded to take the bird dominance card). The player may then play the dominance card to change their victory condition from "earn 30 points" to "control certain clearings at the beginning of your turn."
4. Which faction has the Field Hospital ability to save fallen warriors?

Answer: Marquise de Cat

When the cats ever lose warriors (battles, revolts, favour cards), they may discard a card from their hand matching the suit of clearing where the warriors were removed. Those warriors are then returned to the board on the clearing with the cats' keep token (the warriors cannot be returned if the keep has been destroyed).
5. Which building track grants the Marquise de Cat the most points when built?

Answer: Workshops (used to craft cards)

The Marquise de Cat gets points whenever they construct a building. Later builds will grant more points. If the cats player constructs all five workshops (without losing any), they will generate 16 points (2-2-3-4-5). Lumber mills will generate 15 (1-2-3-4-5), and recruiters will grant 13 (1-2-3-3-4), but will also increase the cats' end-of-turn card draw.
6. Which of the following is NOT required for a Marquise de Cat player to place a new building?

Answer: There are no buildings belonging to another player in the clearing they want to build in

This is a rule that is easy to forget about: when building, the Marquise de Cat must be able to trace a path from their lumber tokens to their building site through clearings that they rule. If the other players can cut off the paths around the cats' sawmills, they can prevent the cats from constructing new buildings, which is their primary way to get points.
7. What does Eyrie Dynasties ability "Lords of the Forest" do?

Answer: The Eyrie win ties when determining who rules a clearing

Usually if there is a tie for rule of a clearing, then no player rules it. By winning these ties, the Eyrie can be more efficient when moving their warriors around. Completely empty clearings are still neutral.
8. At the end of their turn, each player will draw at least one new card. How does the Woodland Alliance draw additional cards?

Answer: By having bases on the board

The Woodland Alliance will draw one extra card for each base they have on the board. They have three possible bases (one for each suit), which means they can draw up to four cards at the end of their turn. Losing a base will decrease their card draw.
9. At the end of their turn, each player will draw at least one new card. Which item lets the Vagabond draw more cards?

Answer: Coins

Coins are one of the three item types (the others being bags and tea) that do not take up space in the Vagabond's satchel (when not broken or exhausted). The Vagabond can have up to three coins, each of which grants an extra card draw at the end of the turn.

The tea increases how many items the Vagabond can refresh. The bags increase how many items the Vagabond may hold in its satchel. The boots let the Vagabond move between clearings.
10. On the other side of the original board is the winter map. Apart from a different art style and arrangement of clearings, what is different about the winter map?

Answer: Clearings do not have set suits

On the autumn board each clearing had a suit printed on it (and had trees that matched the colour of their suit: pink for mice, yellow for rabbits, and red for foxes). The winter side has no printed suits. The game came with twelve cardboard clearing markers that are randomly distributed on the winter board's clearings during setup.

Unlike the autumn board's even distribution of suits, the winter map can have clusters of clearings of the same type. This can make dominance cards more viable because players are able to reach and control three clearings of a single type more easily.
