Ray Atlee is a law professor in Virginia. His father, Judge Reuben Atlee, wanted him to stay in his hometown of Clanton, Mississippi, and practice law but he had to get away from his crazy family.

Judge Atlee was on his death bed and wanted to discuss funeral arrangements. He also wanted the boys to keep their home in the family.
