Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who won the teacher's race on Sports Day for the third year running?

Answer: Mr Kilgraw and Mr Creer

As one was a vampire and one was a ghost, it wasn't surprising that it ended up a 'dead' heat!
2. In which year was Mrs Windergast first burned at the stake?

Answer: 1214

She was burned a second time in 1336. She now never went to barbecues.
3. Who is the new teacher to the school?

Answer: Mr Helliwell

At the end of the book we find out he came to steal the Unholy Grail to destroy Groosham Grange.
4. Who came first in the Advanced Cursing exam?

Answer: Linda James

Mr Helliwell had slipped out one of David's answers so he only came eleventh. David didn't know this so he was convinced it was Vincent King's fault.
5. How high was the blue statue of Miss Pedicure which Vincent and David had to find in the museum?

Answer: 6 centimetres

It was like looking for a needle in a haystack. They had until midnight to find it and weren't allowed to use magic. David found it first, but a surprising twist of events organised by Mr Helliwell meant Vincent came home with the trophy and won the Unholy Grail.
6. Which waxwork model knocked David out?

Answer: Duchess of York

The Duchess knocked him out with her handbag. Dr Crippen muttered, 'Good work, Your Highness.' Hitler was also very impressed.
7. To whom was Mr Helliwell writing all his secret letters?

Answer: Bishop of Bletchley

He wrote a number of letters throughout the book, informing the Bishop of his progress stealing the Unholy Grail.
8. Where did Mr Helliwell have to bring the Unholy Grail to in order to destroy the school?

Answer: Shadow of Canterbury Cathedral

He didn't succeed though-David stalled him until it was too late and took the Unholy Grail back to Groosham Grange on Mrs Windergast's precious broomstick.
9. Whose handbag did Mr Helliwell put the Unholy Grail in to smuggle it away from Skrull Island?

Answer: David's grandmother's

Because she lived close to Canterbury, Mr Helliwell used her handbag to smuggle it away. He tied up David, Vincent and the others while he did this. Strange things happened to David's family while they were in the car with the Unholy Grail as it got further and further away from Skrull Island but all David's gran noticed was that her handbag was a little heavier.
10. Did David leave Groosham Grange at the end of the book?

Answer: Yes

He decided to leave because he worried he was turning evil. Mr Kilgraw supported his decision.
