Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does Rue love most in the world?

Answer: Music

When Rue and Katniss team up for the first time in the arena, Katniss has just woken up from her horrible nightmare brought on by the Tracker Jackers. She and Rue discuss life in the different Districts, and how District 11 differs from District 12. This is when Katniss asks Rue what she loves most in the world.
2. How does Katniss react to the announcement that there is going to be a rule change, which states that two victors could be crowned if they are from the same District?

Answer: She screams Peeta's name

After the announcement that two victors could be crowned if they are both from the same District, Katniss screams Peeta's name before she can stop herself, and then fears that somebody may have heard her. This rule change is introduced when there are only six Tributes left in the arena, meaning that the announcement only relates to Clove & Cato (from District 2) and Katniss & Peeta.
3. What does Peeta think of when he looks at the field in which Thresh hides?

Answer: Hidden things

When Peeta and Katniss are in the cave during the storm, Peeta describes where Thresh hides out, in the fields beyond the Cornucopia. "It has a sinister feeling to it. Every time I look at that field, all I can think of is hidden things. Snakes, and rabid animals, and quicksand," Peeta said.

This conversation starts when Katniss is quizzing Peeta on his experiences with the Career pack, and he admits that none of them wanted to venture into the fields, for fear of the unknown.
4. How much time is allocated to each Tribute's interview with Caesar Flickerman?

Answer: Three Minutes

During the interviews, each Tribute is allowed a strict three minute time slot, which gives the Sponsors a chance to get to know the Tributes. At the end of those three minutes, a buzzer sounds and the next Tribute is presented. During their interviews, Katniss stuns the audience with her surreal flaming dress, and Peeta confesses his undying love for Katniss in front of the entire population of Panem.
5. Who made the announcement that there would be a feast at the Cornucopia?

Answer: Claudius Templesmith

While Caesar Flickerman is the legendary host/interviewer of the Games, Claudius Templesmith makes all of the announcements during the "Hunger Games", and is the only outside voice the Tributes get to hear during their time in the arena. During the Games, Claudius Templesmith makes three announcements (the first announcing a rule change, the second mentioning a feast at the Cornucopia, and the third being when Katniss and Peeta win the Games).
6. How is Foxface described?

Answer: Sly, elusive, smart

Throughout the book, Foxface is described many times as sly, elusive and smart. This is based on numerous occasions when Katniss witnesses her outsmarting the others or being able to sneak away without confronting the other Tributes.
7. What is District 3's main industry?

Answer: Technology

District 3's main industry is Technology. During the Games, the Careers team up with the District 3 male, and persuade him to re-bury the landmines around their pile of supplies, so that nobody can get near them.
8. Who is killed, along with Glimmer, by the Tracker Jackers?

Answer: District 4 Female

When Katniss is trapped in a tree with the Careers below, Rue gives her the idea to drop a Tracker Jacker nest on the pack, killing Glimmer and the District 4 female. The rest of the Careers, including Peeta, manage to escape to the lake before receiving numerous stings.
9. What made Katniss' mother fall into a deep depression?

Answer: Her husband's death

After her husband's tragic death in a mining explosion, Katniss' mother becomes immensely depressed, leaving Katniss to provide for the family. This proves difficult, and after Katniss almost dies from lack of food, Peeta saves her life by throwing her two loaves of bread while she sits in the rain outside his bakery.
10. How old is Gale, compared to Katniss?

Answer: Two years older

When Katniss enters the arena, she is 16. This means that Gale, being 18 and two years older than her, is in his final year of eligibility.
