"Nineteen Minutes" by Jodi Picoult was published in 2007. It tells the story of Peter Houghton's school shooting and the events leading up to it. The book is told through many perspectives including Peter's, Josie Cormier, Judge Alex Cormier, and Detective Patrick Ducharme. The book teaches many life lessons about being human.

"Elsewhere" by Gabrielle Zevin was published in 2005. After Liz Hall dies when she is hit by a car, she wakes up on a cruise ship that is heading to a place called Elsewhere. Elsewhere is a Heaven-like place where the dead live until they go back to Earth. Although Liz is first distraught about being dead, she learns to deal with it and meets many friends in her death.

"Catching Fire" by Suzanne Collins was published in 2009. It tells the story of Katniss Everdeen and the uprising against the capitol. In the book, Katniss finds herself in the middle of the uprising and is forced to take part in it to protect herself and her loved ones. The yearly Hunger Games also starts to the great disappointment of the citizens of Panem.

"The Last Dog on Earth" by Daniel Ehrenhaft was published in 2003. In the midst of an outbreak of a dog-killing disease, Logan Moore gets a dog named Jack. The disease, called POS, is similar to rabies and makes dogs attack anything before they drop dead. Logan and Jack go on a life changing journey throughout the book.

"Dead Girls Don't Write Letters" by Gail Giles was published in 2004. It is about Sunny Reynolds and her returning from school sister, Jazz. But, is Jazz really Jazz? Sunny knows that the girl who showed up out of nowhere is not her sister, but can she figure out what is going on in time?

Answer: "After" - Francine Prose

"After" by Francine Prose was published in 2003. In the book, Tom and his friends deal with the new, ridiculous rules and their new horrid grief and crisis counselor after a school shooting takes place at a school near their town. They slowly realize there some deeper conspiracy going on as the school becomes a prison and people start to disappear.
