Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which year does the novel start out?

Answer: 13 ABY

The novel starts off directly in the year 13 ABY, about four years after Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn Trilogy". There is one chapter each dedicated to 19 ABY and 29 ABY as well. The rest of the novel, and its main plot, takes place in 44 ABY.
2. What is the planet that the Wraiths perform their first operation on in the novel?

Answer: Ryvester

Wraith Squadron's first mission in the novel takes place on the world of Ryvester, 31 years before the main events of the book. This mission introduces the character of Dr. Mulus Cheems, who would play a vital role near the end of the book. He was also a father figure to one of the Wraiths.
3. Which Wraith is a Yuuzhan Vong?

Answer: Viull "Scut" Gorsat

Viull Gorsat, nicknamed "Scut", acts as Wraith Squadron's biofabricator; he creates faux biological organisms as disguises, notably for himself as a human. Scut is a member of the Extolled, who were once known as the Shamed Ones, the outcasts of the Yuuzhan Vong society prior to and during the war against the invaders. Dr. Cheems acted as Scut's human father, raising him from the rest of the Yuuzhan Vong.
4. Which character acted as the main point of view for the novel?

Answer: Voort saBinring

Voort saBinring, the intelligent Gamorrean, has much of the P.O.V. narrative attributed to him on account of the emotional weight put upon him in the novel. For instance, he actually had to perform a mercy kill, indicated by the novel's title, on his best friend, Hohass Ekwesh, so that he wouldn't suffer anymore while he was dying of Yuuzhan Vong amphistaff venom. Voort undergoes a major character arc through the novel as, by the book's end, he learns how to enjoy himself despite the tragedies he endured.
5. Which character does Wraith Squadron have to bring to justice?

Answer: Stavin Thaal

Stavin Thaal was a member of the Lecersen Conspiracy, which acted as a subplot for "Fate of the Jedi". Thaal had managed to escape punishment for his membership in the conspiracy when it came to an end in "Fate of the Jedi"'s eighth and penultimate novel, "Ascension". Wraith Squadron's mission to bring him to justice for his treasonous acts serves as the main plot of the novel.
6. What are the names given to Wraith Squadron's target's soldiers?

Answer: Pop-Dogs

The attributed name given to Thaal's soldiers are the Pop-Dogs. Actual pop-dogs are animals encountered by Wraith Squadron on one of the worlds that they're investigating into Thaal's guilt. The Pop-Dogs serve as the antagonists that Wraith Squadron have to face throughout the book.
7. There are two Wraith Squadrons in this novel.

Answer: True

On the world of Vandor-3, the Wraith Squadron led by Bhindi Drayson run into another Wraith Squadron led by Sharr Latt. Latt was a former Wraith from years back, when the New Republic was still fighting the Empire. His Wraith Squadron becomes integrated into Bhindi's unit in order to achieve their mutual goal of outing the targeted member of the Lecersen Conspiracy.
8. Which Wraith dies during the main plot of the book?

Answer: Bhindi Drayson

While the Wraiths are on Vandor-3, Bhindi decides to team up with the Wookiee Huhunna to shoot down their enemy pursuers. While the plan works, Bhindi is shot at pointblank range in the stomach with a lethal laser bolt. She later dies from the wound and fails to pass on command of Wraith Squadron. Voort is the one who takes command.
9. Who acts as Voort's wingmate at Kuratooine?

Answer: Myri Antilles

In X-wings, Voort and Myri attack one of Thaal's military bases on Kuratooine and engage against two of his Pop-Dogs in orbit. Aside from an earlier scene where Wedge Antilles and Tycho Celchu acted as an escort for the shuttle that would extract Wraith Squadron from Vandor-3, this is the only time in the novel where we get to see any X-wing action. Voort and Myri's actions in their X-wings help bring Thaal to justice.
10. Who helps to ultimately prove Thaal's guilt?

Answer: Zehrinne Thaal

Zehrinne would be Thaal's last wife, and they were going through divorce proceedings prior to and during the main events of the novel. Since Thaal had undergone genetic modifications to change his identity so that he could retire in obscurity (that way, he wouldn't undergo any punishment for being part of the Lecersen Conspiracy), Zehrinne truthfully pointed out that she didn't recognize the man as her husband, and that his appearance was merely a disguise over his modifications. Thaal was soon taken into custody as being an imposter for killing Stavin Thaal, ironically.
