Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the movie, Don and Alice, a married couple, are hiding from the "infected" in a cottage with other survivors. Alice brings up the safety of their children, but Don comforts her and explains that they are safe because they are not in Britain. Why are the children not in Britain during the outbreak?

Answer: They are on a school trip.

This scene takes place in the prologue of the movie, during the quarantine of Great Britain. Both Don and Alice are thankful that they decided to pay for the school trip because it gives their children safety.

Don is played by the Scottish actor, Robert Carlyle. Alice is played by Catherine McCormack.
2. The survivors in the cottage soon have dinner together. All of a sudden, there are frantic knocks at the front door. Don and Alice open the door hesitantly, and they bring in a small child who has been running from the infected. What is the child's hair color?

Answer: blond

The child they rescue is blond. Don arms himself with a crowbar before opening the door.
The food they eat is mainly canned and nonperishable. There are four others who are hiding in the cottage as well: Sally, Geoff, Jacob, and Karen.
3. Soon after the child is admitted into the cottage, the infected attack. They break through the barred door and windows, and force the survivors to run in panic. During this attack, Don chooses to leave behind his wife and the child so that he may possibly live. He runs from the cottage to a motor boat nearby. Which of the other survivors is on the boat?

Answer: Jacob

Don jumps into the motor boat while Jacob is untying it from the dock. Shortly after they are untied, Jacob falls off into the river with the infected swimming behind him. Don attempts to pull Jacob back up, but he is pulled down by one of the infected and surfaces as one of them. Don kicks him off, and drives away, ending the prologue.
4. Six months after the outbreak, American armed forces officially declare that all of the infected have died. How do army think the infected died?

Answer: They starved to death.

In the film, the army presumes that all of the infected have starved to death because the infected are primarily concerned with killing uninfected people, instead of eating. Although not explained in the film, the infected are not known to kill each other. The other two answers are plausible, but the army do not think that they are the primary reasons why the infected died.
5. As the passengers disembark the airplane, Scarlett, the medical officer, radios headquarters, after seeing Andy and Tammy among them. Why is she upset that there are children among the passengers?

Answer: All of these

Scarlett is upset mainly because she has never been informed that there are going to be children arriving in England. In her conversation with headquarters, she also includes that she is against the children's arrival because there is no set safety code for children, thus, it is still too early to allow children back into England.

Later, she examines Andy and Tammy, pointing out that twelve-year old Andy is the youngest person in England. Scarlett also notices Andy's unique genetic trait, where he has two different eye colors.
6. Britain begins repopulation led by the United States Armed Forces. Tammy and Andy, Don's children, are informed, while entering London, that only a section of London is open to the public. The rest of Great Britain has not been declared safe for living and is off limits for civilians. What is the name of this section?

Answer: District 1

District 1 is located in the Isles of Dogs in London, which is surrounded by the Thames River. The bridges that cross the river are the boundaries for District 1 and are watched by guards.

The district has all of the accommodations necessary for living comfortably, including hot and cold water, electricity, and a supermarket.
7. When Tammy and Andy sneak out of District 1, they plan to visit their old house. Where do they first stop, where they pick up a scooter?

Answer: pizza restaurant

The kids sneak past the guards on the bridge quite easily, even though they are spotted by Doyle, an American sniper. This seemingly lack in tight security is evident in other parts of the movie as well. When the children go to the pizza restaurant, Tammy finds the keys to the scooter on a dead body in the kitchen.
8. When the children visit their old house, the two rummage through their belongings so that they can take things back with them. Andy wanders up to the attic. What is drawn on the attic wall with white chalk?

Answer: crosses

The white crosses found on the attic wall are presumably drawn by Andy's mother, Alice, to count days. The mother has been hiding out in the attic for the whole time. Apparently, she did not die or become one of the infected. Chillingly, she approaches Andy and hugs him.

She begins to dig her fingers into Andy, who yells and runs downstairs. The children leave the house when the American forces appear outside in full body suits.
9. Scarlett begins to examine the mother after Alice is throughly washed and cleansed. Alice has a bite mark on her arm. Scarlett realizes that Alice must have some sort of immunity to the Rage virus; Alice does not show symptoms of the disease, but she is still a carrier and, thus, can still spread it. Although she is immune, one of Alice's eyes is slightly bloodshot, a characteristic of an infected. Was Alice's left eye the bloodshot one?

Answer: Yes

While Alice is strapped down to a stretcher, Scarlett prods Alice with several questions about how she survived and what had happened to her. Alice remains in eerie silence with only an occasional plea to see her children. Scarlett takes a blood sample, and confirms that Alice does in fact have the virus.

Alice's right eye is still the normal color.
10. Hearing of Alice's survival, Don enters the quarantined room. Because he is the "caretaker" of the entire district, he has the ability to enter any room with just a swipe of a card. Although he is not authorized, he visits Alice and apologizes to her. They kiss, but Don catches the virus through Alice's saliva. He then violently kills Alice. What is Don's last action in his process of killing Alice?

Answer: He pushes his thumbs into her eyes.

After pummeling her face and biting her in the neck, Don gruesomely pushes his thumbs into her eyes. Immediately after kissing Alice, Don feels the effects of the virus. He seems to try to resist it by violently smashing against a glass window and writhing across the floor.

Again, it seems that Don has easily gotten past security, like his children.
11. As soon as it is discovered that the virus has spread, the district goes into lockdown. All of the civilians are herded into a containment room, while soldiers search for any signs of the infected. However, the infected Don breaks into the containment room, and mass chaos ensues. Andy is in the room, while his sister is safe with Scarlett. How does Andy escape unharmed from the containment room?

Answer: He climbs into an air vent.

Andy is the first to see his father at the door, and realizes that he is infected. He backs up, while Don enters and begins to bite others. Andy steps, then climbs into an air vent and crawls his way outside. The air vent is above the carnage. Andy covers his ears in an attempt to block out the screaming below.
12. When Sergeant Doyle receives the order to shoot anyone, including uninfected civilians, he disobeys and immediately abandons his post without shooting a single civilian.

Answer: False

People within the containment room are able to break open the locked doors and run outside. The snipers on rooftops are ordered to only shoot infected people at first, but are soon given the command to shoot all individuals because it is apparent that all control has been lost. The soldiers are a little shocked, but carry out their orders. Doyle does kill uninfected people; he is forced to shoot a fellow sniper because the other sniper has been bitten.

Sergeant Doyle does abandon his post later. He joins with Scarlett, Andy, Tammy, and other civilians.
13. Doyle leads the group out of London to Regent's Park, where he hopes to be picked up by Flynn, his friend. Flynn does not expect that Doyle would have civilians. He refuses to extract them because there is not enough room in his helicopter. Instead, he tells Doyle to head for a new location to be picked up. Where is this?

Answer: Wembley Stadium

Wembley Stadium is located in Central London. The journey back into London is a rough one; both Doyle and Scarlett are killed. Doyle sacrifices his life in order to start a car by pushing it. He is burned to death by a soldier who is incinerating bodies. Scarlett is killed by Don in a subway station. She is leading the children through the darkness to the stadium. Don then confronts Andy, and bites him. Tammy shoots him with Doyle's gun.

Tammy and Andy arrive safely at the stadium, and are flown out of Great Britain.
14. When viewers see the empty helicopter, the radio is on and there are distress calls. The camera pans over a sticky note that is from Flynn's son. What is the drawing?

Answer: a helicopter

Apparently the helicopter is abandoned. It also appears to be on its side, as if it has crashed. The sticky note has a drawing of a helicopter. It is from Flynn's son. The drawing appears earlier in the film, when the soldiers are introduced.
15. In the epilogue, there are infected chasing civilians in a different country. In which country has the virus spread to?

Answer: France

How the virus spread to France is not shown, but one can speculate that it has to do something with Andy. Although Andy is immune, he is still a carrier of the disease and can spread it. The helicopter is flying to France because a scene shows them flying over the White Cliffs of Dover, which overlook the English Channel. France is directly across the water. Also the in the epilogue, the Eiffel Tower can be seen in the distance.
