Alliterative Titles 5 Trivia Quiz

I provide a year and clue to a film with an alliterative title (two or more words with the same initial letter or sound). For example, if the clue was "a coloured equine (1994)", the answer would be "Black Beauty". Just match the film and clue.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A man is branded a coward and receives white items from friends (1939).

Answer: The Four Feathers

"The Four Feathers" was a novel by A. E. W. Mason and is set in Egypt in the late 19th century, when the Madhist War was taking place. The film, by director Zoltan Korda, was actually filmed at the sites of the original battles. The title came from the story of a young army office accused of cowardice by his friends who each give him a white feather.

The hero of course rescues his friends when they are captured and he returns the feathers to them.
2. Two rather stupid men set out on a journey to return a lost briefcase (1994).

Answer: Dumb and Dumber

After a journey with many problems, Harry and Lloyd, played by Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, manage to return the suitcase to the lady owner and then their problems really start.
3. Future-President Reagan starred in this film about a professor trying to teach morals to a chimpanzee (1951).

Answer: Bedtime for Bonzo

President Reagan was a film star before he took an interest in politics. In "Bedtime for Bonzo", he plays a college professor who tries to show that a chimpanzee's sense of right and wrong is based on environment rather than heredity. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the film gained in popularity, being shown regularly again on TV during the 1980 Presidential election campaign.
4. A male stripper wants to start his own business (2012).

Answer: Magic Mike

Channing Tatum plays Mike, a man trying to start his own business while performing as a male stripper at night. A young work colleague (Matthew McConaughey), tries his hand at stripping one night and is hugely successful. When things go to his head, problems soon start to arise.
5. Frances "Baby" Houseman falls in love with a dance instructor, Johnny Castle (1988).

Answer: Dirty Dancing

Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey perform one of the sexiest dances seen on film despite there being friction between them off set. Swayze had turned down other roles because of a knee injury but still took this one on which presented a few problems in the famous lake-lift scene.
6. A bumbling French detective is on the hunt for a notorious jewel thief (1963).

Answer: The Pink Panther

Peter Sellers plays Inspector Jacques Clouseau who is trying to catch the jewel thief known as 'The Phantom'. The film title comes from the name of the diamond which is being targeted by the Phantom.
7. Twelve grimy military prisoners go on a secret mission (1967).

Answer: The Dirty Dozen

"The Dirty Dozen" had a very impressive cast including Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine, Charles Bronson and George Kennedy. The film is about an attack on a house where several important German Generals are spending the night on the eve of the allied D-Day landings.

They are of course well protected but on this occasion, twelve military prisoners facing execution or long prison sentences and therefore having little to lose have been training to attack the Generals house with the intention to cause disruption in the German high command.
8. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan star as a mother and daughter who magically switch bodies (2003).

Answer: Freaky Friday

The film is based on Mary Rodgers' 1972 novel of the same name. Walt Disney Pictures made it with Buena Vista Pictures. It was the third adaptation of the story. The original adaptation was made in 1976 and there was also a TV movie made in 1995.
9. This live action film starring Emma Watson was released by Walt Disney Pictures in 2017 and was a remake of an earlier animated film from 1991.

Answer: Beauty And The Beast

The film was made in the UK with mainly British actors. The story of "Beauty and the Beast" is much older than I expected. Published in 1740, it was the creation of Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve. A Prince has been cursed by an enchantress who was refused entry to the Prince's castle in a storm.

She turned him into a 'Beast' and his staff into household objects. To lift the curse, Beast must fall in love before the last petal of a rose should fall. Years later, Belle, a young woman, comes across the castle and is imprisoned by the Beast. Time passes and Beast slowly starts to love her.

He is unfortunately killed in a fight with the village bully just as the last petal drops. Belle professes her love for Beast and the enchantress restores him back to life as a Prince.

His staff are also restored to their human form.
10. A father renowned for telling untruths, lets his son down yet again. The lad wishes that his dad tells the truth for just 24 hours and his wish comes true (1997).

Answer: Liar, Liar

Max's father Fletcher, played by Jim Carrey, can be relied on to lie every time he opens his mouth. Fletchers son Max's wish comes true and Fletcher finally starts to tell the truth and this saves the family from breaking up.
