In the film Sebastian (Matthias Schweighöfer) explains through a YouTube video post that Hans Wagner was a locksmith and safemaster who owned his own business. After his wife and child died tragically Hans sought to make four epic safes and he named them after the four parts of Richard Wagner's epic "Ring Cycle".

These four parts are the Das Rheingold (The Rhinegold), Die Walküre (The Valkyrie), Siegfried and Götterdämmerung (Twilight of the Gods) and they are based on legendary figures of Norse mythology.

After creating these safes Hans Wagner created a safe that he locked himself into and used as his tomb.

After Sebastian posted his YouTube video about Hans Wagner he received a comment to go to Berlin. When he gets to the meeting spot he is thrown into a challenge against seven other safecrackers. In the final round three minutes were allotted but Sebastian taunts both the safe and his opponent for most of the time before cracking it.

His safecracking abilities attract the attention of Gwendoline (Nathalie Emmanuel) who seeks his expertise for some epic heists.

Gwendoline surprises Sebastian at the cafe where he gets his morning coffee and tells him that they are going to crack the three safes of Hans Wagner. Gwendoline tells Sebastian that the outbreak that started in Nevada in the United States will spread and they all need to live a life a little less ordinary and boring.

The team of Sebastian, Gwendoline, Korina, Brad and Rolph go after the Rhinegold safe first as it is the least guarded and least complex of the three Wagner safes. On the Paris heist Gwendoline steals the guard's keys while Korina and Brad make a distraction. Sebastian cracks the safe and Rolph is their getaway driver.

After it is discovered that the Rhinehold safe has been broken into an Interpol agent named Delacroix uses camera footage and knowledge of the other safes to attempt to track down the heist team.

Headquartered in Lyon, France, Interpol was founded in 1923 and it is the world's largest international police organization.

Answer: Ludwig Dieter

Translated into English, Sebastian called his comics "Ludwig Dieter: Master Safecracker and Explorer". After Sebastian tells Gwendoline about his comics she recommends that he go by the name Ludwig Dieter as it is easier to pronounce than his real name.

The bank in Prague where the Valkyrie safe was located was much larger than the heist the team pulled off in Paris. Correspondingly, the security was much better and they were able to detect Korina hacking into their camera system. So to distract security from finding out the safe was being cracked Brad goes into the bank and robs the bank's teller line and shoots the guards with tranquilizer darts.

Answer: Bicycle

After Brad robs the bank one of the guards there shoots him in the shoulder. Even so, he is able to pull Gwendoline into the getaway van. However, after he grabs Sebastian's hand instead of pulling him in he tosses him onto the street. Sebastian is then chased by the police but he is able to elude them while on a bicycle that he deftly maneuvers through alleys and down stairs.

Although leaving Sebastian behind was originally part of Gwendoline, Brad, Korina and Rolph's plan, how Brad did it upset the other team members and Gwendoline and Korina end up walking out on the team.

Answer: Armored truck drivers

The Siegfried safe was located at a casino in St. Moritz, Switzerland and it was scheduled to be moved at 5:00 pm. However, acting as an Interpol agent, Korina called the casino and informed them there was a security risk and the casino moved up the time to send the safe to Geneva.

Then the armored truck transporting the Siegfried safe was stolen by Gwendoline and while inside the back of the truck Sebastian is able to crack it.

Answer: Sebastian can escape if she turns herself in.

Comically, before leaving the car to get to the boat Sebastian tells Gwendoline, "I really like you a lot." She tells him that he tells her serious things at the worst times but she reciprocates his feelings and they share a kiss. At the dock to get on their getaway boat Delacroix stops them and refuses the offer of one-third of the cash.

Instead of getting into a gunfight with Gwendoline, Delacroix accepts her offer to let Sebastian flee on the boat.

The end sequence of "Army of Thieves" leads into the events of "Army of the Dead" from which Scott Ward is one of the principal characters. The actor and wrestler Dave Bautista takes on the role of Scott Ward with his typical strength and humor that was formerly displayed as Drax the Destroyer from the Guardians of the Galaxy team in various films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
