Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the director of 'Crocodile Dundee'?

Answer: Peter Faiman

Peter Faiman previously worked with Paul Hogan when he directed and produced the 'Paul Hogan Show' in the early 1970s-80s. 'Crocodile Dundee' was his biggest achievement, although he has worked on several television shows in Australia and the US.
2. In which two countries was 'Crocodile Dundee' set?

Answer: Australia and USA

'Crocodile Dundee' starts off in the Australian outback, before heading to the US when Mick (the main charaacter) is invited back by Sue (Journalist and Mick's eventual love interest in the film).

The film was inspired by the real-life shenanigans of Rodney Ansell, who died in 1999 after a shootout with the local law enforcement officers. Ansell went missing in the Northern Territory of Australia in early-mid 1977. He claimed he was going on a fishing trip, yet when his boat capsized and sunk, he managed to retrieve his tender and travel to stay alive until he was rescued by two stockmen. It was later revealed that Ansell was out poaching crocodiles (not fishing) hence, the inspiration for Mick 'Crocodile' Dundee.
3. The two main characters in the 'Crocodile Dundee', Mick and Sue, were played by which actors?

Answer: Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski

Paul Hogan played Mick Dundee, an outback legend. Linda Kozlowski played Sue Charlton, a journalist who travels to Australia to report on the story of Mick Dundee.

Paul Hogan starred in his own comedy show 'The Paul Hogan Show' in the 1970s and 80s. American television viewers from the mid-late 1980s may recognise Paul Hogan as the man who aked them to throw a "shrimp on the barbie".

Linda Kozlowski worked on Broadway before being cast as Sue in 'Crocodile Dundee', 'Crocodile Dundee 2', and 'Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles'.

Kozlowski and Hogan married in 1990.
4. Why is Sue interested in writing about Mick?

Answer: Mick reportedly had his leg bitten off by a crocodile.

The legend of Mick Dundee is that he lost his leg in a crocodile attack, but made it back to civilisation and lived to tell the story. In reality, he has a really big scar and his leg is still attached - a most unimpressive story for an American journalist trying to capture the 'essence' of the outback and one of its best-known characters.

Not ready to return to the US, Sue decides to spend some time with Mick get some sort of story out of her visit to Australia.
5. Sue is unimpressed with Mick - until he does what?

Answer: Mick hypnotises a water buffalo.

Sue is unimpressed with Mick's uncouth behaviour towards her, a classy lady from New York. On their travels, Mick seemingly hypnotises a water buffalo, kills snakes with his bare hands, takes part in an Aboriginal ceremony and deters tourists from killing kangaroos, at the behest of Sue.

Sue starts to wonder if there is more to Mick than a chauvinistic, outback character who thinks she is incapable of looking after herself in the outback.
6. Which event happens that scares the life out of Sue, enough to make her realise she is attracted to Mick?

Answer: Mick saves Sue from a crocodile attack.

A rather large crocodile grabs the canteen Sue has hanging around her neck as she's washing her face in the water. She struggles against the croc until Mick comes along and saves the day.
7. Of the following strange nicknames, which was not a character in 'Crocodile Dundee'?

Answer: Bluey

All the listed nicknames can be considered typical in Australia. Unfortunately 'Bluey' (very common in Australia if you are a red-head!) didn't make it into this movie. Donk was played by Steve Rackman, Nugget was played by Gerry Skilton, and Dingo was played by Alan Dunlea.
8. In order to continue her story, Sue invites Mick to return with her to which part of the US?

Answer: New York City

A world away from the Australian outback, Mick returns to New York City with Sue. He does leave Sue for a time, though, and has a few adventures of his own in the unfamiliar city.
9. Whilst Mick is wandering around in the USA, he is challenged by a group of youths, intent on mugging him. Which line does Mick use - one that became well-known after the movie's release?

Answer: "That's not a knife. That's a knife!"

Mick pulls out his own knife - a Bowie knife - to show the muggers what a 'real' knife looks like. This is in comparison to the small knife that is pulled on him in the first place. The gang of youths scurry away as fast as possible at the end of this scene!
10. Sue knocks back a proposal from her partner before tracking Mick to which setting, to let him know that she has chosen him over her ex?

Answer: Subway

The crowd milling in the subway station is too thick for Sue to get to Mick. So the crowd relays the message and Mick is hoisted above the crowd so he can make his way back to Sue for the typical end of movie get-together. Awwwww!
