"Don't Look Up" opens with a graduate student named Kate (Jennifer Lawrence) discovering a comet via the Subaru Telescope. After she shares the discovery with her colleagues, their team leader, Dr. Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio), runs calculations to see how close the comet will come to Earth. To his and Kate's horror, they calculate that the comet will have a direct hit on Earth and cause an extinction level event in six months and 14 days.

In addition to Dr. Mindy and Kate, Dr. Oglethorpe, the head of the Planetary Defense Coordination Office, is also at the meeting with the President. Unfortunately, both President Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her son/Chief of Staff, Jason Orlean (Jonah Hill), do not take the incoming comet as necessary to take action on immediately. President Orlean tells them to sit tight and wait as the midterm elections will be held in three weeks and she doesn't want to do anything to possibly pause a panic and a loss of political clout.

After they are blown off in their meeting with President Orlean, Dr. Oglethorpe tells Kate and Dr. Mindy that they have to leak information about the comet to the press, on social media and into the scientific community. Dr. Mindy counters stating that the information is confidential and he is not comfortable doing it since his focus is on numbers rather than telling people they are all going to die in six months.

Answer: The Daily Rip

In the film "Don't Look Up" the most popular talk show, "The Daily Rip", is hosted by Jack Bremmer (Tyler Perry) and Brie Evantee (Cate Blanchett). They first talk to a pop celebrity named Riley Bina (Ariana Grande) who discusses her break-up and upcoming single.

When they get to their interview with Dr. Mindy and Kate they joke about extraterrestrial life before the scientists inform the viewing audience that the comet will likely destroy all life on Earth in six months.

Answer: Ron Perlman

When Dr. Mindy inquires to President Orlean as to why the government doesn't use an unmanned spacecraft, she replies that America always needs a hero to look to. Benedict Drask is nominated and accepts the likely suicide mission to derail the comet. Drask is played by Ron Perlman who previously starred on the TV series "Beauty and the Beast" and the films "Hellboy" and "Hellboy II: The Golden Army".

Answer: Satellites

On Launch Day, Commander Drask is sent up in a space shuttle with dozens of satellites fired up nearby. The sheer number of satellites launched prompted there to be an expected loss of up to two of them. However, none were lost at launch and shortly after Dr. Mindy comments that the mission is now 81% likely to succeed. Surprisingly, the satellites and space shuttle end up turning around and parachuting back down to Earth a few minutes after launch.

Answer: The comet contains valuable minerals that will make rich people richer.

Dr. Mindy is informed that the mission to derail the comet was aborted after it was discovered that the comet contained an estimated $140 trillion in minerals. A team from the company BASH Cellular led by its CEO and presidential donor, Peter Isherwell, had already developed plans about how to brake up the comet to reduce its impact to Earth and then mine its resources and essentially make rich people richer. Kate tells nosy bar patrons about this plan and shortly after looting and rioting occur.

Answer: Cialis

While throwing the bottles of pills at her husband Dr. Randall Mindy, June mentions that he takes Xanax for panic attacks, Zoloft for depression, non-branded meds for blood pressure, restless leg syndrome and appetite suppressant and Cialis presumably for erectile dysfunction.

Interestingly, Brie is laughing the whole time that she is doing this seemingly not caring that Dr. Mindy is on so many medications.

Answer: The comet was visible to the naked eye for the first time.

On the same night both Kate and Dr. Mindy observe the approaching comet in the night sky with their eyes. They then go on a media tour exclaiming "Just Look Up" to convince comet disbelievers that the comet is real and you can see it with your own eyes. However, the comet disbelievers and those following President Orlean resisted and adopted the counter phrase "Don't Look Up".

Answer: She is eaten by a Bronteroc.

Earlier in the film while on Earth in a bunker President Orlean asks Peter Isherwell if he knows how she will die. Using his BASH Cellular technology he tells her that she will be killed by a Bronteroc, whatever that means. As the comet is about to hit Earth 2,000 people are sent in a spacecraft to an exosolar planet in the habitable (Goldilocks) zone.

When they land 22,740 years later, President Orlean goes up to a bird-like creature (a Bronteroc) to pet it but ends up being eaten by it.
