Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the 1998 movie "Dancer, Texas Pop. 81" the opening scene shows the four main characters sitting on the highway. As a car approaches they all get up from their chairs and remove all but one item from the road. Was this a cowboy hat?

Answer: No

As the boys get up and remove their chairs from the highway, two of them leave a can of soda sitting on the road. One of them kicks his soda off the road as he walks by, but one can of soda remains. Amazingly the passing car did not run it over!

This movie starred Breckin Meyer (Keller), Peter Facinelli (Terell Lee), Eddie Mills (John), and Ethan Embry (Squirrel). Peter married former "90210" actress Jennie Garth in January of 2001. Their second daughter, Lola, was born in December 2002.
2. In "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" we see the students attending their first lesson with Professor Sprout. Is their first lesson about the Mangrave root?

Answer: No

It is about the Mandrake root. Hermione offers a second name, Mandragoria, but not Mangrave. In this scene Neville Longbottom passes out from the cries of the Mandrake. Matthew Lewis played Neville in both of the first two "Harry Potter" movies.
3. 1996's "The Long Kiss Goodnight" starred Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson. We see Geena playing an amnesiac calling herself Samantha Caine. She is really a government spy and hit woman. True or false: her real name was Charly Baltimore.

Answer: True

Samantha hired private detective Mitch Henessey (Sam Jackson) to help her find out about her past. One night, during the Christmas holidays, Samantha hits a deer in the road and sustains a head injury. She soon begins to have flashes of her true identity - Charly Baltimore. With help from Mitch, Charly/Samantha discovers that she was shot in the head and left for dead eight or nine years earlier.

Her former contact in the government has gone dirty and is working with the man she was supposed to kill all those years ago.

In the end she has to kill the father of her child, a cold blooded killer himself, to prevent a bomb from killing thousands of people. This is one of my favorite Geena Davis movies.
4. In the 1980 movie "The Shining" we see writer Jack Torrance go crazy from isolation, and the help of some not so friendly ghosts in the Overlook Hotel. Toward the end of the movie, was it the ghost Grady that let Jack out of the walk-in freezer?

Answer: No

This is a bit of a trick question. Jack (Jack Nicholson) was not locked in the walk-in freezer. His wife Wendy (Shelly Duvall) actually locked him inside the walk-in pantry. He was in there for quite a while when the ghostly bartender Grady let him out to murder his family.

In the book and the 1997 made for television remake, Dick Hallorann saves the family. Jack lets the furnace overheat and sacrifices himself in the explosion so that Dick, Wendy, and Danny can get away. We also find out that Danny's imaginary friend Tony is actually his adult self communicating with him.
5. Continuing on in the Stephen King genre, in the 2003 movie "Dreamcatcher" the first main character to die is Beaver.

Answer: True

Beaver sacrifices himself to save Jonesy. Jonesy was hit by a car early on in the movie, but survived. He was unable to run or move very fast at all, so Beaver made Jonesy leave him alone with the alien. Though Beaver urged Jonesy to shut the bathroom door, Jonesy stood there horrified until the alien had killed Beaver, and was heading toward him. I had a feeling that Beaver would not make it when he was the only one of the four who did not remember the "memory warehouse".

Henry and Jonesy are the only main characters to survive the ordeal. Pete, Beaver, and Duddits are all killed.

In the DVD alternate ending, Duddits does not die in the alien battle. Instead we see Jonesy and Henry at his grave after he has died from his illness.
6. In the movie "Bring It On", the Toro's rivals were the West Compton Clovers.

Answer: False

They were the East Compton Clovers. Gabriel Union played their head cheerleader Isis.
7. In the 2003 remake of "Freaky Friday" Jamie Lee Curtis plays a psychiatrist. Does her character, Tess Coleman, have an extremely needy patient named Ethan?

Answer: No

His name is actually Evan. "Sex And The City" alum Willie Garson plays the needy patient. Tess' daughter Anna (Lindsey Lohan) does call him both Kevin and Evan when she fills in for her mom during the first day of the body switch.
8. Adam Sandler plays law school graduate and slacker Sonny Koufax in the 1999 movie "Big Daddy". Sonny plays surrogate father to young Julian while his real father, Kevin Gerrity, goes on a business trip. The trip Kevin takes is to China.

Answer: True

Julian is played by twins Dylan and Cole Sprouse. Cole had a guest starring role on the sitcom "Friends" as Ross' son Ben. They both starred on an episode of "That 70's Show" as Billy and Bobby in September of 2001.
9. Most Tom Hanks fan remember the scene in 2000's "Cast Away" where his character has to get an infected tooth out of his mouth. Did Tom play a man named Chuck Wilson?

Answer: No

No, of course not! Wilson was his best friend on the island. He was a Wilson volleyball with a face made from a bloody print. Chuck's last name was Noland.
10. "Simon Birch" tells a story of friendship. Simon and Joe are very different boys, but become best friends. They remain so even after Simon accidentally causes the death of Joe's mother, played by Ashley Judd. The movie is narrated by an adult Joe. Is the grown up Joe played by Jim Carrey?

Answer: Yes

Though Simon accidentally throws a ball that hit Joe's mom in the head, their friendship never wavers. Later in the movie, Simon saves the lives of younger children on a school bus as it sinks in icy waters. He later dies of pneumonia. Joseph Mazzello played Joe to Ian Michael Smith's Simon. Joseph played Tim Murphy in 2 of the "Jurassic Park" movies.
