Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The NeverEnding Story

Answer: Artax

Artax is probably the most mourned movie character of all time. The horse dies in a very emotional scene in a swamp where it slowly sinks into the mud. The scene is still occasionally talked about years later. A rumor still persists to this day that the horse actually did die in the scene because of malfunctioning equipment. It, of course, isn't true, but false rumors are never ending.
2. Tarzan the Ape Man

Answer: Cheetah

Cheetah was a chimpanzee born in 1932. He died from kidney failure in Florida in 2011, having outlived all the human actors from the movie. He was taken from Liberia in early 1932, while still a baby.
3. Men in Black

Answer: Frank

This dog, an alien in disguise, was played by a pug named Mushu in both the original movie and the 2002 sequel. The character of Frank also appeared in the cartoon series "Men in Black" that ran from 1997 to 2001.
4. The Man From Hell's River

Answer: Rin Tin Tin

Rin Tin Tin appeared in many early movies. His first starring role came a year after "The Man from Hell's River" was released, and by 1926 had become one of the most popular "actors" of the time.
5. Born Free

Answer: Elsa

Elsa the lioness became a star with the release of "Born Free", a movie detailing two people's attempt at training a captive lion cub to be released into the wild. Elsa died in 1961 at age four from a disease she contracted from a tick bite.
6. National Velvet

Answer: The Pie

In the book, the horse's name (and coat) was Piebald. The movie version changed the name to The Pie, and had a chestnut horse. The movie horse's real name was King Charles, and was bought by the studio for $800.
7. The Lion Who Thought He Was People

Answer: Christian

The movie is also known as "The Lion at World's End" and "Christian the Lion". This semi-documentary follows Christian as he is taught to survive in the wild after being bought from a closed zoo in London. It is not a direct sequel to "Born Free", though the wildlife conservationists are the same.
8. Patton

Answer: Willy

In the movie Willy, originally named William after William the Conqueror, is intimidated by a much smaller dog where upon Patton calls him Willy. Willy was played by Abraxis Aran, a bull terrier. After Patton's death in 1945, the real Willy went to live with Patton's widow and children. He died in 1955.
9. Where the Red Fern Grows

Answer: Little Ann

Little Ann and Old Dan are two Redbone Coonhound dogs owned by Billy, a child growing up in the Ozark Mountains. Trained to hunt racoons, the dogs win a hunting championship. But soon after, Old Dan dies after defending Billy from a mountain lion, and Little Ann dies soon after. Between the dogs' graves a red fern begins to grow, which according to legend can only be planted by an angel.
10. Animal Farm

Answer: Napoleon

The movie "Animal Farm" is based on George Orwell's book of the same name. Napoleon is a pig, who takes control of the farm through threats and coercion, becoming a dictator. While named after Napoleon Bonaparte, his actions mirror Joseph Stalin's rule of the Soviet Union.
