Our hero's former boss of the museum, Dr. McPhee, is concerned that not enough visitors are coming to the Museum of Natural History. So, in order to keep up with the times, he decides to replace the figures with creepy interactive holograms so he can keep the masses entertained, as well as educated.

Larry disagrees and learns that the replaced figures will be sent to the Smithsonian to be kept in its underground storage forever.

It is a mystery how the little figurine cowboy, Jedediah, dials the phone let alone how he has Larry's home phone number. Nonetheless, Jedediah lets Larry know that the monkey stole the tablet when it was supposed to stay at the Museum of Natural History. We also learn that Akhmenrah's older brother, Kahmunrah, wants the tablet for evil, self-serving purposes.

Teddy Roosevelt, from the Museum of Natural History, tells Larry that the tablet was going to be left behind, while the rest of the unwanted exhibit pieces were going to be shipped, without the life-giving tablet. So of course Larry wants to do something to keep all the figures in the Museum of Natural History.

Our hero bumps into a chubby and confrontational guard named Brundon. They get into a petty fight, but before they make up, Larry stealthily picks Brundon's pocket and jacks his security card ID.
Larry uses the ID to make his way into the labyrinth that is the Smithsonian's secret storage facility, so he can reach his museum figurine friends.

Kahmunrah and his army fall for Larry's trick and he leads them to the crate with the creepy, giant red octopus that swats them all away. Along the way, Larry rides in an old-fashioned motorcycle with General George Armstrong Custer, to escape Kahmunrah's army. And then he meets a lovely and brave young lady who joins him on his quest.

Larry meets the airplane pilot and she is his helpful friend, defending the golden tablet from the wrong hands. She is famous for being the second person and first woman to fly solo over the Atlantic.

At first they are platonic friends, but then they develop intimate feelings toward each other. Soon they realize that they can never grow closer because she is a museum figurine and not a real human.

Kahmunrah chooses these dastardly villains from history to join in his unholy reign of the world for a planned 1000 years. But he needs the tablet and its code to do it. Larry tries to keep the combination secret, but one of Kahmunrah's buddies gets the answer from another exhibit figure and helps Kahmunrah set his evil underworld bird-man army free.

Seeing the Lincoln statue scares the bird droppings out of Kahmunrah's bird-man army and sends them fleeing back to the underworld.

Saying this inspirational quote, from the "Bible", helps Larry mess with the minds of Kahmunrah's buddies, which succeeds and tears them apart! Larry's friends, lead by General Custer, attack Kahmunrah and his team. Then Larry and the evil Egyptian Ruler battle, but Kahmunrah looses and suffers his torturous end in Egyptian Hades!

Larry successfully returns the locked-away figures to the Museum of Natural History and makes a deal with Dr. McPhee. He requests that the museum keeps the wax figures and stays open late at night, so the public can enjoy the figures coming to life!
