Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "The door's way too heavy sir."

Answer: The Breakfast Club

This quote is from the John Hughes movie "The Breakfast Club" about five completely different teenagers who have to spend the day together in detention. When detention begins, their vice principal instructs them to sit in their seats and write an essay about who they think they are, in the library with the door open. One of the students removes a screw from the door so that it closes and the principal at first tries to get them to admit who removed the screw.

When they don't, he tries to use a light fold-up chair to hold the door open and the student who did remove the screw tells him "the door's way too heavy sir", which of course it is, frustrating the principal.

The movie is full of funny and iconic quotes from the students who spend the day getting to know one another, the vice principal, who is the butt of a number of quips, and the janitor who amazes them all with his knowledge of the school and their activities.
2. "I see you managed to get your shirt off."

Answer: Galaxy Quest

The 1999 movie "Galaxy Quest" starring Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Rockwell and Tony Shalhoub is a hilarious take on the space exploration themed television show. The alumni and estranged cast of a TV show called "Galaxy Quest" are summoned to help out actual aliens in this movie, with Tim Allen as their showboating captain, Jason Nesmith, and Alan Rickman in the role of a classically trained actor named Alexander Dane who loathes his role in the show.

In one scene he cynically quips "I see you managed to get your shirt off" after Nesmith narrowly escapes mortal danger.

The cast come to gain respect and friendship again through the course of their adventure helping out an imperiled alien race.
3. "Come with me if you want to live."

Answer: Terminator 2: Judgment Day

The first words the terminator cyborg, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, says to Sarah Connor, played by a strong and muscular Linda Hamilton in "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" are "Come with me if you want to live." as he extends a hand to her and she looks from him to her son in total confusion.

This is because in "Terminator" a cyborg who looks identical to this one relentlessly tries to kill her. In the sequel this cyborg is sent to protect her from a new and improved model known as the T-1000 model, played by Robert Patrick. Arnold has lots of great quotes in the sequel including the iconic "I'll be back."
4. "Why don't you put her in charge?"

Answer: Aliens

Bill Paxton plays a frightened Private Hudson in "Aliens". In this scene, the crew have already lost team members to the monsters so they know what they're up against as they learn that a rescue ship can't come for them for another seventeen days. Hudson loses his composure and tells them all that they won't last seventeen hours against the aliens, never mind seventeen days. Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, reminds him that the little girl they found in the colony lasted for much longer than that, and she was by herself with no training or weapons.

He hilariously replies "Why don't you put her in charge?"
5. "High school's your prime suffering years. You don't get better suffering than that."

Answer: Little Miss Sunshine

"Little Miss Sunshine" is the tale of a dysfunctional family who go on a road trip together in a broken down van as they try to get their daughter to a beauty pageant for kids. The family has suffered through some pretty hard times, including a suicide attempt, drug addiction and financial struggles.

Their teenage son Dwayne who has just learned that he is color blind and won't be able to try out for the Air Force Academy, is talking to his uncle and suggests that he wants to sleep through his teen years and just come out on the other side when he's eighteen.

His uncle wisely tells him that all the years when you suffer are actually the best years of your life because they teach you so much and truly make you who you are. He helps Dwayne come to terms with his difficult situation and try to reach his goal of joining the Air Force anyway.
6. "Bring out the gimp."

Answer: Pulp Fiction

Which quote to choose from "Pulp Fiction"? The banter between the characters is brilliant but "Bring out the gimp." just evokes so much dread and fear. In this scene, Marsellus Wallace and Butch Coolidge, who have been fighting each other because Butch, a boxer, does not throw a match like he said he would and lost Wallace a bunch of money, have stumbled into a pawn shop where little do they know sadists Maynard and Zed are waiting inside. Butch and Marsellus are bound and gagged and facing Zed who instructs Maynard to "Bring out the gimp". Butch and Marsellus cannot see what's happening but can hear as Maynard slams open a chained box and brings the gimp to Zed.

The gimp is a man dressed head to toe in black leather fetish gear. Zed then plays eenie meenie to decide which of Butch and Marsellus to rape first. Suffice to say, the terror and tension of this scene is exceptional.
7. "I can't believe I gave my panties to a geek."

Answer: Sixteen Candles

In the 1984 John Hughes hit "Sixteen Candles", unpopular Samantha has a crush on the cute and popular Jake Ryan while trying to avoid and ignore the self-proclaimed King of the Geeks, who has a crush on Samantha. In a moment of weakness at a school dance, Samantha gives her underwear to the geek (he isn't given a name in the movie) who proceeds to charge younger geekier students to view them. Molly Ringwald, who stars in many John Hughes movies, plays the main role of Samantha, Michael Schoeffling is Jake and Anthony Michael Hall is the geek.
8. "I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you."

Answer: Taken

"Taken" is a violent and action-packed revenge movie starring Liam Neeson. His teenage daughter is kidnapped while on vacation in Paris and he uses his skills as an ex-CIA agent to track down and kill anyone involved in her abduction. This movie, released in 2008, is really fun to watch and cheer on Neeson as he systematically hunts down and murders anyone who is involved in harming and kidnapping his daughter.

In this scene, he is on the phone with one of the people involved in her kidnapping and calmly explains how he has a "particular set of skills" that makes him "a nightmare to people like you" and if he doesn't get his daughter back, he'll come after them, and come after them he does!
9. "That'll do pig, that'll do."

Answer: Babe

These words are the last words of the movie "Babe", a heartwarming 1995 movie about a pig raised by sheepdogs who learns to herd sheep. At the end of the movie, he and Farmer Hoggett participate in a sheepherding competition and Babe, with his polite and gentle manner, gets the sheep to do exactly as he asks and gets a score of a perfect ten. Farmer Hoggett, a man of few words, turns to him and says "That'll do pig, that'll do." and you know how pleased he is with the little pig. "Babe" is a wonderful movie about friendship, conformity and individuality.
10. "Now in this class you can call me Mr. Keating or if you're slightly more daring, O Captain my Captain"

Answer: Dead Poet's Society

Robin Williams is superb as an English teacher in a strict all boys boarding school who tries to teach the teens to think for themselves. His name is Mr. Keating but he is a big fan of Walt Whitman and invites the boys to call him "O Captain My Captain" as a tip of the hat to Walt Whitman.

He uses poetry and art to try to influence the boys to live life to the fullest and not let opportunities pass them by. During the course of the semester, a terrible tragedy occurs but also self-development and bravery as Mr. Keating has a profound influence on his class.
